rsync over smb share
I have a FreeBSD unix server that I want to backup to a USB drive attached to a Windows 2000 server. I mount the smb share on the Unix server and then try to rsync from the source directory to the mounted directory, but it syncs all files every time. Can someone suggest if this should work and what my problem may be? -- Robert

delta copies
I posted the other day about trying to determine why my backups seem not to be doing this. I am trying to figure this out this weekend, I have two files on a RAID0 FreeBSD file system using SATA drives. I do a simple tar of /var twice and then rsync the two files only as a test, no folders involved....trying to determine why the entire file is being copied in its entirety and not synchronized

HLS enabled mounts
We use Icecast version 2.4.4 and recently added an intro (preroll) to one of our channels. Although we haven't had any direct complaints, there has been a discussion thread with some of our public radio colleagues getting complaints about users receiving a repeat of the intro many times when their device switches from WiFi to LTE or unstable Internet connections. Help setting up USB drive
I have my 640GB USB drive connected to a CentOS 5 server and using fdisk, it seems to show a partition of the correct size, /dev/sdd1, but after mounting, the drive shows only 244M size. Does the message received when running fdisk below mean I should reformat this drive, I can't seemed to figure out how to do that with fdisk. Can someone tell me how to reformat, if needed? The drive is empty,

i/o timeout errors with cygwin
I have been a long time user of rsync for backups between unix/linux servers for years. Recently, I have been trying to backup Windows boxes using rsync with cygwin. I have no problems when doing this running rsync over ssh from a Windows server with the destination to a unix server, but to run rsync on the unix server pulling down from a Windows server, I get i/o timeouts. I also have this

buffer overflow in receive_file_entry
I have rsync 2.6.6 on unix source to a cygwin setup on a Windows 2003 server. Was working well, then I moved a folder down one subdirectory and started getting the following. I assume this means it is having problems with the length of the file name? I have the same problem with long file names using cwRsync. Are there any options other than modifying the file names? backup# ./820.remote-backup

Long file names
I believe this post I found is related to a problem I'm having with long files names...I would like to use cwRsync, does my problem suggest this is still happening and has not been addressed? http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2005-April/012117.html However, I have long file name issues using rsync 2.6.6 from a BSD server to the default Cygwin rsync 2.6.6. Should I (and how do I) apply
