Opensource Websearch Engine Project
Hi,
I'm Pierre-Louis Dehapiot from Paris, France. I am studying computing programming at the ECE (a french school) and this year, the topic of my project is "google and indexing".
To summarize, it deals with creating my own google in only one year :p !
I saw that you made yourself an opensource websearch engine written in C (Xapian).

New monitor weirdnesses (CentOS 5.11)
I just got a new monitor for my desktop system (the old one died after *many*
years of service). The new monitor is a high res 16:9 monitor, but the VESA video
driver insists on using 1024x768 (which was the resolution of the *old*
monitor). It does seem to detect higher, 16:9 resolutions but it is not using
them. I *think* I need to set some low-level video mode thing, but it has
been a

"Untrusted application launcher (desktop launchers)"
I am having this problem on Ubuntu 18.04 -- I manage a batch of desktop
machines with some convience desktop launchers, which gnome3 insists are
"untrusted". With some general websearching reveals that this is a *GNome3*
so-called "security" issue
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/commit/1630f5348). I found a thread
on the CentOS Forums (I don't have an account there), where another sysadmin
is strugling with this issue:

HTTP Accept header wildcard breaks rails app
The thunderstone crawler (http://search.thunderstone.com/texis/
websearch/about.html) sends the folliowing HTTP accept header when
requesting pages
Accept: text/*, application/javascript, application/x-javascript
This results in a "Missing template" exception
text/* is valid. How do I tell my rails app to treat this as rhtml by
default instead of returning a 500?

R on 64-bit Windows
In the R for Windows FAQ (2.7.2) we have under 2.2:
"There is no specific version for x64 Windows, but the standard 32-bit
version works well enough."
Does that include the handling of huge data sets? What I have read in
other places indicates that the answer is "No". If so, will there be
a 64-bit version availble soon? When I websearch for 64-bit MinGW it
seems to exist out

Inserting weights in ltm package
Afternoon R help,
I want to run Rasch/IRT analyses using the ltm package, however, I am
using large scale survey data which requires weighting for accurate
results. I attempted to create a weighted object to insert into the
formulae of the ltm packages, however, the survey data only includes
30 replicate weights and a sampling weight. The svrepdesign requires
additional information such as

R training courses in Alexandria VA in Aug 2001
Help:
We received an email notice about an "R" programming
course being offered in Alexandria, VA in August (I
think the 1st thru the 3rd) and cannot find it. Since
this is the only place we "publicly" posted interest
about R, we hope that someone can send me the info or
a contact to sign up.
We are interested in attending but cannot for the life
of us find the

md5 salt
Hi,
I was looking at the crypt(3) manpage, and I'm having a hard time figuring
out what the allowed characters are for the salt in md5 and blowfish
encryption. For DES, it clearly states that only numbers, letters and
digits may be used.
Does anyone know the rules for md5/blowfish salt characters?
Thanks,
Charles

Fwd: Possible to load VBIOS TSR from MEMDISK, then load Linux?
Intel has VBIOS updates available that end-users typically cannot use
unless their vendor includes it in a system BIOS update. The only
exception is being able to use a DOS TSR (terminate and stay resident)
executable, which doesn?t work e.g. in NT-based Windows. However, I do
not know if this also applies to Linux (and that may be a question to
ask elsewhere). However, regarding MEMDISK, would it

Hi ,
I am new to this puppet. I am implementing a network where my cisco switch
will contact the puppet server for getting the configuration.
I tried installing open source puppet and was successful in pushing down
the configurations.
I wanted then to try the same exercise with puppet enterprise 3.1. I
installed puppet enterprise in a different server and changed my puppet
agent (switch) to
