Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris.
But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s.
Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ?
Is hotplug supported ?
Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ?
Thanks,
Arnaud

mirror writes 10x slower than individual writes
I have an odd setup at present, because I''m testing while still building my machine.
It''s an Intel Atom D510 mobo running snv_134 2GB RAM with 2 SATA drives (AHCI):
1: Samsung 250GB old laptop drive
2: WD Green 1.5TB drive (idle3 turned off)
Ultimately, it will be a time machine backup for my Mac laptop. So I have installed Netatalk 2.1.1 which is working great.

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
...was looking at was the WD15EADS.
The older 4-platter WD15EADS-00R6B0 revision seems to work OK, from what I found, but I prefer fewer platters from noise, vibration, heat & reliability perspectives.
The newer 3-platter WD15EADS-00P8B0 revision seems to have serious problems - see links below.
WD15EARS:
Also, very recently WD brought out a 3-platter WD15EARS-00Z5B1 revision, based on ''Advanced format'' where it uses 4KB sector sizes instead of the old traditional 512 byte sector sizes.
Again, these drives seem to have serious issues - see links below.
Does ZFS handle this new 4KB...
