Strangely slow disk
I have a 1.5TB Western Digital hard disk (WD15EADS-00R6B0)
on my CentOS-5.7 server, which has become incredibly slow
for some operations, eg rsync, BackupPC archive, e2fsck,
although it seems to work fine for ordinary file operations,
and "smartctl -a /dev/sdb" does not report any errors.
For example, running "e2fsck -p /dev/sdb5&qu...

What appears broken is I cannot access any of the logs such as the

Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris.
But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s.
Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ?
Is hotplug supported ?
Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ?
Thanks,
Arnaud

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
...Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives.
As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would stick with WD.
However, this time I might have to avoid Western Digital (see below), so I wondered which other recent drives people have found to be decent drives.
WD15EADS:
The model I was looking at was the WD15EADS.
The older 4-platter WD15EADS-00R6B0 revision seems to work OK, from what I found, but I prefer fewer platters from noise, vibration, heat & reliability perspectives.
The newer 3-platter WD15EADS-00P8B0 revision seems to have serious problems - see l...
