Wayward Directories
Seems that any program that has a default data directory, or previously
selected directory preserved, has the directory duplicated/nested:
That data is in c:\mystuff\mydata
It is shown as c:\mystuff\mydata\mydata
The files appear and maybe can be read. Any attempt to write produces an error
(obviously, there is no such directory). Some programs will crash/abort wine

HowTo clear a share using smbclient ?
...delete subdirectories. Is there any easy way to accomplish this ?
I prefer the idea of running this rather than a 'rm -rf' from the
command line as I can script this and as it's a public share the
possibility of deleting anything else is pretty minimal.
I've seen a few examples of wayward rm command in crons to be wary of
doing that !
Any ideas how I could accomplish this ?
Many Thanks

LibreOffice locking up
...os.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
LibreOffice locked my CentOS 7 hard today, I could not close the application, nor could I reboot the computer by any other mean than turning the computer off and then on again. The lockup happened while loading one of my spreadsheets.
First, I do not understand why a wayward application can lock my computer so hard that I have to cycle power.
Second, I cannot understand why this bug is not fixed. LibreOffice is obviously one of the key applications users will run. It should not be that hard to put out a debug version that those of us who have this problem - at least o...

..., but then you had a tool that worked, was effective and
streamlined, and you didn't even need a mouse to use. Just looking, I
didn't find it with yum, but it looks like it's still out there, albeit
a mousey version: http://linux.die.net/man/1/xfontsel
I agree with others about the wayward tabletization of what's supposed
to be a productivity tool. Last month, the touch pad on a new laptop
getting in way of that productivity big time, I wrote in code on gnome's
website how much fun it wasn't-- i.e., how to disable the touch pad:

I've lost control of Gnome
I tried out KDE for a while, but eventually found that it was not to
my liking. I've switched back to Gnome, but it seems to me that options
I used to have in the panel aren't available anymore. I'm not totally
sure, but isn't there supposed to be some sort of Gnome (Nautilus?)
control center? A place where I can adjust the themes, screen savers,
and that sort of thing?

User cannot dial
I have a user connecting from behind a firewall. The location is remote and
I have no access to the firewall to so any port forwarding.
She is using SJPHONE as the client. I can dial the extension and she can
answer, we can converse. However, she cannot dial out. Any ideas what causes
this?

IMAP server <defunct> (beta 7)
Hi,
We've been using a 0.99 version of Dovecot for nearly a year without
problems, but due to a server death I had to reinstall with the same
configuration as before, but more recent versions of the software, on
different hardware.
This time though, every few days IMAP login and access fails, and the
output of ps ax shows entries such as [imap-login] <defunct> and

So my suspicion against FAT turns out to be as wayward
as it felt. Probably just some deceiving coincidence.
The only plausible theory in my mind would be that one
of your USB sticks does not work well with that single
mainboard.
But if the Patriot can fail or succeed at will, then
i am clueless. (One could mumble about old, meanwhile

Samba - NT Terminal Server error
Hi all,
I have a Dell PowerEdge 6300 running Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal
Server Edition (SP5) + Citrix MetaFrame 1.8. We are running Samba 2.0.4
on a Sun Enterprise 4500 with Solaris 7. The smb.conf specifies
server-based authentication, and specifies the Terminal Server as the
password server. The users are not allowed to directly log on to the Sun
box, so on that server

seamonkey on Centos 2.1 deletes itself!
Well, partly:
I've been "converting" a RHL 7.3 system to approximately Centos 2.1, so found
it necessary to "rpm -Va"
I was more than a little surprised at this:
[root at magpie root]# rpm -V seamonkey

EPEL problem
Hi, all.
I'm trying to install the EPEL repo on a fully up to date CentOS 6.4.
I'm using wget to download from my usual source but after I install it
via `sudo rpm -ivh epel-xxxxx` it's not actually there in
`/etc/yum.repos.d`.
Trying to install it again, Yum just tells me it's already installed.
I've no idea where it is installed if it is (which I don't think it is)

Just need to vent
Sometimes the direction of UI development in gnome really angers me.
For example, when selecting a font for the gedit text editor - there is
no way to ask it to only show monospace fonts.
It's a fricken text editor, that should be the default - meaning you
have to do something special to get fonts shown that aren't monospace.
Seriously, who is in charge with the UI design in gnome?

2.2.2 runaway SMBD process
Hello,
I am running Samba 2.2.2 with acl-0.7.16 on RedHat 6.2 (2.2.19). The PDC is
a Windows 2000 Server and the Samba server is a domain member using Winbind.
All the workstations are Windoze 2000 Pro with SP2.
Everything seemingly works fine but every day or two I get a runaway SMBD
process which hogs the CPU and becomes unkillable. The only resolution is
to reboot the server completely.

Does ZFS work with SAN-attached devices?
Hi All,
Its been a while since I touched zfs. Is the below still the case with zfs and hardware raid array? Do we still need to provide two luns from the hardware raid then zfs mirror those two luns?

Thanks,
Shawn
