more fcgi problems on apache
I''m having tons of problems with fcgi on apache2. The app didn''t crash over the weekend when it wasn''t used. I ran it this morning and it was fine. It''s an inhouse app so it wasn''t used for 3 days over the weekend. It did however crash today. Does this sound like a bad fcgi setup or just a very buggy fcgi/Apache combo? Using a helper within another helper?
I am trying to push some view logic into a helper. The thought is that this is a step towards having the business logic in the helper rather than the view. However, I''m essentially wrapping the checks around an eventual call to date_select(). The problem I''m having is that the application complains that it doesn''t know about date_select(). I''m sure (or

freebsd service management redux

Just to clear any doubt: # echo puppetmasterd_enable=\"NO\" > /etc/rc.conf.d/puppetmasterd # /usr/local/etc/rc.d/puppetmasterd start <nada> It''s kinda embarrassing I didn''t already know this. tap:aio
I have never been able to get tap:aio devices running. When I try it in a Linux PV domain, it says: XENBUS: Waiting for devices to initialise: 295s... And they don''t work in my GPLPV drivers, which is the problem I am trying to solve, but I''d like to see them work under Linux first. Is there anything extra I need to do? I have loaded the xenblktap module (forgot to do this

Upload Progress (mup.js) typo

SWIG detection, revisited
I did some testing this morning, and wasn''t happy with the error messages presented to the user if they didn''t have the right SWIG version. I realized that the detection was happening at the wrong place in the code. We were detecting the swig version while *creating* the swig tasks, rather than while *executing* a swig t...

Large select list, speed issues
...ults generating option tags, it was much faster than the select_Tag is right now. There are about 1000 projects. In PHP, the page loaded in about half a second, the rails page takes about 4-5 seconds. I tried manually looping and generating option tags instead of using the select_tag method, but it wasn''t much better. Any suggestions?<br> </font></font> </body> </html>

undefined method stupidity
I put some code in a before_save callback in the model file to alter some fields that have dependencies in the DB. I''d like to call a method in the controller file but I continually get undefined method errors. I have specified Controller::methodname as well to no avail. What am I missing? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Understanding boost ?
...en I performed a search for ''keith'' over all fields via with *:(keith*), expecting a doc with Keith in the :name field to come out on top. But another doc with Keith mentioned in other fields (:comments, :address) scored higher. I viewed the explanation from the searcher, but it wasn''t clear to me why the boost wasn''t pushing the :name = Keith document to the top. Any help on understanding field boosting and explain would be great. Regards Neville PS, the two explains are: Doc1: 0.3352959 = product of: 8.047102 = sum of: 4.011141 = weight(comments:&...

Best practices for confidential information -- fileserver path vs modules / template
...h a custom fileserver mount point and a subrepo in our mercurial repo, but this only worked when referring to content as puppet://hostname/custommountpoint. As soon as we switched to omitting the hostname ("puppet:///") we can''t get the references to the subrepo to work since it wasn''t actually modules. In a perfect world, we could share the main puppet repo with everyone, keep a tighter controlled subrepo of confidential data, and have local development environments using the same class as live, but having their otherwise confidential config created as an insecure de...

Problem verifying routing error
...o |orders| orders.resources :items, :except => [:index,:show] end I used to use lambda {}.should_raise( routing error ), but it stopped detecting any raised error. Requesting it through the browser produces ActionController::MethodNotAllowed (Only post requests are allowed). But that error wasn''t detected. When I skip the lambda, and just ask it to verify that the route does exist (which *should* fail), I get the same result for those :except actions as for a made-up action name. Seems this must have something to do with the change in how route_for delegates back to ActionContr...

As of my experience, I saw several connections matched right against the filters and put into the correct class, but the bandwidth management wasn''t even remotely fair. TIA, Nickola

Many index files
I''m using acts_as_ferret and have indexed a model with acts_as_ferret :fields => [:name, :ascii_name, :alt_names], :single_index => true. I can''t remember this from earlier ferret/acts_as_ferret versions where I''ve indexed millions of

learning the cron module
OK. I thought I would start by looking at how cron.rb in the puppet lib/type works because what I''m trying to accomplish is similar. However, when looking through that, it wasn''t immediately obvious to me how or when the resulting cron file was getting written out. Is this getting stored up in some instance var or something? Maybe getting sent to standard out and some other part of the application manages that? Please be gentle, cause I''m still fai...
