Small Modification to the Shorewall Release Model
After gaining some experience with the new release model, it has become apparent to me that a small adjustment is warrented. I previously announced that updates to the stable release would only contain bug fixes. I''m modifying that slightly to allow for small low-risk enhancements; large and/or risky enhancements will still be restricted to the development release. We have seen this change at work alread...

[patch 0/6] Guest page hinting version 6.
...sider the code to be stable. My question now is how to proceed with the code. I sure would love to see the code going upstream some day but that depends on the mm developers as the code adds complexity that needs to be supported. If the general feeling is that the advantages of this approach do not warrent for the added complexity this will likely be the last time you will hear about guest page hinting. -- blue skies, Martin. [PATCH] Configurable variable for iptables executable
Hello, I want to test Shorewall''s IPsec feature. It requires patched netfilter (and kernel but that''s another story). I didn''t want to replace my distribution''s iptables package with my own compilation so I installed it to another prefix. Now Shoreall uses the iptables command found first in $PATH. I don''t think this is the most elegant way. I

KVM clone

If you need it to have a different IP address/name/license then bring up a new definition without a NIC, login via virt-manager. For the IP address, search the registry for the current IP address and change the appropriate entries. Use standard Windows utilities to change the description/name. For the license,

KVM clone
...ty_Identifier I have successfully cloned many versions of Windows OS, then booted the clone and changed static IP using Network Connections widget -> Change Adaptor Settings, without incident, where my intent is never to run both systems at the same time. Not clear to me what circumstance would warrent editing the registry to obtain this result, but everything has a good use case I suppose? For completeness, as OP might know, Microsoft provides the 'sysprep' utility to prepare a system for cloning. In RHEL6 / C6 and more recent, Linux guests can be similarly prepared with 'virt-sysp...

[Slightly OT] Timing out during File Save
...e background (no pun intended ;-) ) I''m using BackgroundRb for session management. After a set period of user inactivity I kill their session and all the information they''ve entered and files created from that info is deleted. I know it''s a bit unusual but it''s warrented in this app. BackgroundRb was the tool I needed because I need to display a count-down timer in their browser. It is working beautifully. The ''problem'' I''m trying to solve is that the ''Save File'' dialog box is modal so it prevents the timer in the b...

question on assorted patches
...om Darren, but according to a later post it doesn't apply against stock 3.7.1p2. Does anyone have a version that does? Use of -current disturbs me since I'm trying to write up a standards doc that will be norative until a new vulnerability arises or enough other changes take place to warrent upgrade on several hundred servers. - [3] We are currently using 3.4p1 with the BSM patch along with UseLogin=yes for hosts that are BSM enabled. According to one email with no reply, that patch is MIA for 3.7.1p2. Does anyone have a replacement? - [4] I found a patch for this that I plan...

Supported version of Samba for commercial use.
Dear Sirs. We have csv reports that are created on a unix server automatically via a cron job. We are looking at putting these reports in a shared area / work out a way of sharing a unix device to windows machine like mapping a network drive. The only product we have found that can possibly do this is samba. Because we are a large company ('BRITISH TELECOM') we really need a version of

Plotting a graph for every Level of a Factor
Hello, I'm sorry if this seems similar to my last post but I thought it was significantly different to warrent a new thread. Using the dataset below, is there a way to generate a bar/line plot for the TACC/Catch of every lvl of stock? i.e. OR1,OR3,OR5. The picture at the bottom of this post is an example of the bar/line plot for OR1 which was generated when OR1 was the only stock in the table. This was...

mongrel garbage collection
Sorry, for the re-post, but I''m new to the mailing list and wanted to bring back up and old topic I saw in the archives. http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/mongrel-users/2008-February/004991.html I think a patch to delay garbage collection and run it later is pretty important for high performance web applications. I do understand the trade-offs of having explicit vs. implicit garbage

serious networking (em) performance (ggate and NFS) problem
Dear best guys, I really love 5.3 in many ways but here're some unbelievable transfer rates, after I went out and bought a pair of Intel GigaBit Ethernet Cards to solve my performance problem (*laugh*): (In short, see *** below) Tests were done with two Intel GigaBit Ethernet cards (82547EI, 32bit PCI Desktop adapter MT) connected directly without a switch/hub and "device
