Samba and MC/Service Guard
Samba friends, I work in Wal-Mart's IT department, specifically with Unix Servers of various flavors, but HP-UX is predominant in our Home Office environment. I recently built an two node HA cluster on HP 11.11 boxes. I want to be able to have Samba use the virtual name of my cluster. Currently Samba is configured to use the hardcoded box name, however if the box happens to go down, we

Extracting Sequence Data from a Vector
Thanks in advance. I have a vector of numbers which contain sections that are sequences which increase by a value of 1 followed by a gap in the data and then another sequence occurs, etc: x<-c(1:3, 6: 7, 10:13) From the vector I need to extract 2 items of information A) the first number in the sequence (e.g., 1, 6, 10) and B) how many observations were in each sequence section (e.g., 3,

Potential opportunity for open media...
Robert Cringely had an interesting item in his 2004 predictions: 12) Wal-Mart's entry into the music download business changes everything, and will undoubtedly take the leadership away from Apple. This wouldn't bother Apple if Wal-Mart would support its file standards so Wal-Mart music can play on iPods, but that won't happen. In order to compete for what really counts (iPod

Running stats on individual data.frames from the split() function list
Hello, and thanks in advance. I have a data.frame from which I want to count observations that occur on each day and determine the mean and std.error of said counts. For instance: x<-split(my.df, my.df$julian.days) Although I'm still in my R learning infancy I am under the impression that x is a list of data.frames subsetting my.df by group (i.e.,julian.day) where day 1:366 are

Segmentation fault in buffer_append_space for AIX 5.3 for openssh-4.0p1
For AIX 53 ML01 I'm getting a "Segmentation fault in buffer_append_space at line 85 in file buffer.c" in sshd after typing my password for a new connection to the AIX 5.3 host. Line 85 is "if (buffer->offset == buffer->end) {". Is this caused by an old bug in buffer_append_space? Regards Rob v.d. Wal

Running "all possible subsets" of a GLM (binomial) model
I have spent a fair amount of time looking for a package that is automated to run glm (binomial) regression models with all possible subsets of my independent variables. Something akin to Lumley's "leaps" package, but can be applied to glms, not just lms; or something similar to Stata's brute force "tryem" function? If anyone can point me in the right direction I

Cannot join Ubuntu12.04 Samba 4.1.17 to domain
I reproduced error WERR_DEFAULT_JOIN_REQUIRED in two scenarios: - user account that is used to join machine to domain is not part of Domain Admin group. - OU path for computer (specified in createcomputer) is invalid In both of those cases I'm getting detailed error messages: 'insufficient access' and 'invalid path' respectively but on customer site I'm always getting:

Mysterious (bogus?) rsync(d) errors -- (code 23) at main.c(1045)
Folks, (1) Please pardon me if this is something stupid, but I've googled like mad and not figured it out (the other reports of this error don't seem to apply to me) (2) I would be thrilled to hire an rsync expert to troubleshoot this for me, so offer if you are one. The setup: I have 2 identical RHAS3u4 servers, running linux 2.6.10. On a nightly basis, we are rsyncing all of the

Switching the version of Rails that an app uses
Hi All, I’ve got a few versions or Rails installed and I''d like to run an App I’m developing with various versions of Rails. I heard of two ways to switch the version of Rails that an app uses: 1. Use GitHub as described by http://kylecordes.com/2008/04/30/git-windows-go/ . But that requires using Bash in a Command Window and more steps than I want to go through. 2. Alter

Form with subforms
Hi, I''m looking for a way to implement subforms. For example, a form where you can add clients, and at the same time enter contactpersons for this client. I''ve been looking around, reading ebooks, etc, but can''t seem to find a good example/tutorial for something like this. So I would be very thankful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks, Sven

Looking for player recommendations...
I'm looking for personal recommendations for low cost flash based players which support Vorbis (speex and flac support would be nice, but aren't mandatory). Solid support (no weird limits for low and high bitrates) is required. I'd be buying a fair quantity of them to give away as prizes and gifts. I'd rather purchase players which have native Vorbis support rather than buying

syncer causing latency spikes
...to investigate and solve some postgres latency spikes that I'm seeing as a result of some behaviour in the syncer. This is with FreeBSD 8.2 (with some local modifications and backports, r231160 in particular). The system has an LSI 9261-8i RAID controller (backed by mfi(4)) and the database and WALs are on separate volumes, a RAID 6 and a RAID 1 respectively. It has about 96GB of RAM installed. What's happening is that the syncer tries to fsync a large database file and goes to sleep in getpbuf() with the corresponding vnode lock held and the following stack: #3 0xffffffff805fceb5 in _s...
