Agressive echo cancelation
...ehaves. Meaning, is it possible to dial back the aggressive mode to have a happy medium between Regular and the Aggressive defaults. I have a situation where Normal echo cancellation is not quite enough, however when I turn on aggressive mode We are attacking it to hard and I am unhappy with the walkie talkie behaviour of the Aggressive mode. Thanks for any feedback. ~ron

Low RX volume and half duplex/"walkie-talkie" on AEX-804E
Hi All, I have a ticket open with Digium, but based on their previous lack of support for the Asterisk Appliance, I'm not really holding my breath - and, honestly, I'm not 100% convinced it's a Digium issue in the first place (but I don't know where else to point fingers). We have an AEX-804E (PCI Express, 4 FXO ports, Hardware Echo Cancellation) in a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with

Full Duplex
We've had an issue since we went live nearly two years ago on Asterisk where people complain about not being able to talk while someone else is talking. I had assumed for a very long time this was because of the phones we went live with (Grandstream GXP-2000's) and for the longest time I believed this was a speakerphone problem only. Last week during budgets, a request to buy new

Voice activity detection
...stream. They have to enunciate expressions like "ya probably" because the ya isn't detected, only the probably. By sending a bit of padding around the detection, it also prevents the detector from dropping out mid-sentence. It takes it from being a screaming contest over a walkie talkie, to a normal telephone conversation. You might be reluctant to do this, because you have to add in some state information instead of just focusing on the current buffer, but the quality improvement is enormous. I'd just like to be able to pass a pre and post value to the VAD in...

Sound quality issue
Greetings everyone, I've been having some strange issues with my Asterisk box and some snom phones. In some cases, when I talk, the sound in the other end is cut off, I stop earing the background noise - looks like a walkie-talkie. I've tried this between phones in the same network and in all but one this happens. The one where it doesn't happen is the one connected directly to the router. I've tried different codecs with and without transcoding, including g722, and, on that phone, it all goes well. Coul...

Audio problems ins conference zap->sip
...er in the sense sip zap the conversation is listened to perfectly without cuts. Sip in one of the extremes and a equipment in the other one is using a customer itself. Detection makes out the aforementioned of silence, cut short communication when you detect than it has been stopped talking like a walkie however from your side the cuts take place when there is voice, that is, when the team is transmitting data. When the team makes out detection of silence and the communication cuts asterisk short is sent plots I hide extremes to the other and that works correctly. We have accomplished different...

Voice activity detection
This must be a simple issue, but I cannot figure it out. I want to use VAD, but I don't know how to check if the actual frame has voice in it or not. So, in my code, I do: int tmp = 1; speex_preprocess_ctl(preprocess_state, SPEEX_PREPROCESS_SET_VAD, &tmp); speex_preprocess_ctl(preprocess_state, SPEEX_PREPROCESS_SET_DENOISE, &tmp); then later, for each frame

speex over radio and homemade hardware
I've been given the task to hunt down a codec that out solar car team can use to transmit and receive data over a radio link between a chase car and the solar car its self. As of now I do not know the exact specifications of the internal hardware of the car, what I do know is they are looking at transmitting across a 2400baud connection, the unit in the car is homemade from our labs here.

Re: 911 and lawsuits and redundancy
...... Next, staff in the nearest office are likely to phone the emergency services, not to mention lorry drivers or forklift drivers on their mobiles! On top of this, in most places that a crisis would occur, there is little possibility of installing phones - period. Most plants rely on mobiles, walkie-talkie or DECT phones. The number of armored cables I've seen ripped in half, or optical spurs that have been cut by diggers - VoIP and traditional PBX's have no coverage of these areas - forget redundancy! So at this point, the emergency services have been contact about the crisis th...

(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required, but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file, you could use a standard tag. I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal. This
