rails not ready for production use?
All,
I am just getting started with Rails.
Reading the Wiki though, I came across the following:
"IMO Rails is going
thru such heavy churn on all OSs that it is just not feasible for quality
production use unless you’ve got it perfectly setup and don’t do any
related updates (b/c there are waay too many dependency issues going on)...."
How much of this is true?
If I develop on Windows and deploy to linux, am I asking for trouble?
Thoughts, opinions, concerns?
Regards,
Joshua

acl handling on delete (performance problem)
...{st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=6, ...}) = 0
getxattr("/mnt/test/test/0220", "user.SAMBA_PAI", 0x1207f0aa0, 1024) = -1
ENODATA (No data available)
For every folder it wants to delete, it walks all the folders doing this. So
for 4k folders we get 16 milion such tests, which take waay too much time.
Are these loops necessary? Can they be optimised?
We've tested ext3+acl and xfs as an underlying filesystem, with no
difference. We also noticed this behaviour on win98 as a client.
Tested on 3.0.2a and 3.0.4, smb.conf attached.
In my own testings i've noticed that with s...

Win32/MSVC compilation for 0.9.8
Hiya,
I'm working on updating the MSVC build files for 0.9.8 (I've been
assuming that it's not worth doing this for 0.9.7).
One small problem; we can't build the remote backend in this environment
because the network code is waay too Unixy. Thus I'm getting a problem
building some of the tests; specifically test_serialisedoc1() and
test_serialiselength1() in internaltest.cc.
Am I right in thinking that this code should be wrapped in
#ifdef XAPIAN_HAS_REMOTE_BACKEND anyway? If so it will mean we'll have
to have...

FreeBSD & Machine accounts
Due to FreeBSD not allowing '$' in usernames, and because I have to add
a machine account for each computer I add to my Samba domain, what can I
do to try and accomplish the following?
1. Automate FreeBSD to allow me to add machines to a domain the same
way Windows lets you do it from the workstation.
2. Add user accounts which incorporate '$' without having to create a

multicore by(), like mclapply?
dear r experts---Is there a multicore equivalent of by(), just like
mclapply() is the multicore equivalent of lapply()?
if not, is there a fast way to convert a data.table into a list based
on a column that lapply and mclapply can consume?
advice appreciated...as always.
regards,
/iaw

Questions on qcow, qcow2 versus LVM
I''ve been using lvm under centos to create the backing store for domUs and
although the performance seems acceptable it has some shortcomings. The
biggest of which is the LVM bug which prevents me from removing an lv (it
says it is still mounted and it definitely isnt). I thought this was just
a centos bug but it appears to be evident in debian and ubuntu too and I
really can''t

[PATCH 2.6] update to network emulation QOS scheduler
This patch updates the network emulation packet scheduler.
* name changed from delay to netem since it does more than just delay
* Catalin''s merged code to do packet reordering
* uses a socket queue''s directly rather than layering on qdisc(fifo)
because this is used in performance tests.
* adds placeholder in API for future enhancements (rate and duplicate).
