Chapter 10 "Active Directory, Kerberos, and Security" .
...use default domain = Yes winbind separator = / winbind enum users = Yes winbind enum groups = yes ... I have joined samba box with: net rpc join -Uadm%***secret***. I have started nmbd smbd winbind again. Result: ACL works fine just as I expected! Anyway this is not the solution because I have an W3K ADS server that works like an NT4 server and it is possible only because W3K server works in mixed mode, but when It will works in native mode? I will have to change on security = ADS and Kerberos authentication. So I would ask you where is the problem? Is it in the Kerberos configuration? But kini...

Samba benefits.
...t doesn't gave me any problems. Actually someone start a challenge between Ms and Samba, so I have report benefits about it and I'm asking you if you have some links where I can find technical informations about performance benefints and any others stuff to confirm that Samba is better than W3K. I already know that are two OS quite differents and some things are better for Samba and others are better for W3K, and just in front of the fact the first one is totally free. This is ones of the big benefits! I hope you have got the picture. Thanks a lot. Marco.

AD DISCONNECTED.
...disable spoolss = No show add printer wizard = Yes printing = cups load printers = yes map acl inherit = yes Sometimes early in the morning, I get in the office and my users are disconnected by the server, I don't understand if the problem is on samba side or W3k side. They are on the same LAN but W3k is connected to others AD server in the world and it retrieve any policy information by them. So I think that probably something happen ... Also because when I run wbinfo --sequence it return me a list with previous NT domains and relative id and AD "domai...

Chapter 10 "Active Directory, Kerberos, and Security".
...he user cannot list his personal folder. Since it's clear what I should expect from my settings I would like to I ask you how can I set these ACLs to allow the user to list his folder, avoiding to others users to see them (Everyone). Also, why setting this rights on to samba box connected to an W3K ADS server in Chicago, ACL works as I expected, while when my samba box is replicated on my W3K ADS in Italy the behavior of ACL changes: In the first case each user can see personal's folder even if ACLs are "wrong" setted by me as I described above, while after replication the user...

Problem browsing share with W2k and XP.
...wx user:dtomasoni:rwx group::r-x mask::rwx other::--- default:user::rwx default:user:dtomasoni:rwx default:group::--- default:mask::rwx default:other::--- User have to see their own folders and nobody others. Could be any parameter to set in smb.conf or it's probably something set in W3K Server? Thanks a lot. Marco. Realm = or workgroup = ?
I think samba is cool. I'm trying to understand the relationship between these 3 options: Realm = MYGROUP.COM Security = ADS Workgroup = MYGROUP And my samba file server is a member of AD My server is W3K Nothing seemed to work until I specified the realm Do I also NEED the workgroup parameter ? Shouldn't the workgroup and realm parameters exclusive from each other ? -aaron

Unjoin Domain
Hello, I would like to rename my w3k AD domain (I am fine with this process) - one thing that worries me is how the samba 3.0.3pre2 Suse 9.0 server will handle it. Should I delete the computer account from AD? Is there an unjoin/rejoin domain procedure for samba? For the domain name change to work, the AD needs to be in native mode...

What's different?
Hi, I dont' know why accessing by my client W2k to samba box with ACL settings I can't see the user folders while I can see them without problems by a win98 client. What's the difference listing/browsing folders and files between these two OS? Where I have to look for a solution or What kind of tests I have to do? Thanks. Marco.

Remote Windows registry read access from Linux?
...d use smbclient to retrieve the actual remote binary version of the registry and then use some application to decode/dump that binary file. Has anybody succeeded in that approach? With what dumper? I seem to have no similar global file on my W2K installation... - what would that be on W2K? ??On W3K?? I've tried looking at the PDUs that regedit/LANGuard for windows send with a sniffer, but there are 994/11009 of them in my traces, and making sense of the decodes seems a daunting task. SMB, CIFS and MS/DCE RPC keeps re-appearing in those traces, so I thought I'd ask here. As you ca...
