Our mail server is running Linux, so unless Monty spent two hours to get it to
run under Wine, I think you should look elsewhere for the origin ;)

open.exe Virus W32.ATRAPS
Hello,
I am not sure if this is the correct mailing list to send this email...
I was trying to install on windows XP latest R-2.12.2 and my unvirus program
(Immunet 3.0) reports a virus at open.exe while this is unpacked:
W32.ATRAPS
Has anyone come across the same problem?

Several people on this mailing list have the W32/Swen@MM virus
Ever since I signed up for this mailing list and sent my first question, I have been bombarded with the W32/Swen@MM and the emails aren't all from the same person. Is anyone else experiencing this?

2.4-beta fixes for MinGW
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
With these one can build 2.4-beta (AKA 2.3.99.0) with mingw32 (gcc-4.7.0).
Note, however, that win32 subdirectory is:
1) Lacking a complete Makefile.am, so it can't be built with autotools.
2) Depends on MFC, and MFC is not provided by any MinGW toolset (and
MS' MFC is, most likely, highly incompatible with MinGW).
So you only get a console binary....

Thank You!
Robert's suggestion indeed fixed the problem. I kept thinking
those entries were necessary in inetd.conf. Also, kind
thanks to Fred Gilbert for his prompt responses.:-)

a trojan is on your computer!
hi, I am from Norway and you'll don't believe me,
but a trojan horse in on your pc.
I've scanned the network-ports on the internet. (I know, that's illegal)
And I have found your pc. Your pc is open on the internet for everybody!
Because the smss.exe trojan is running on your system.
Check this, open the task manager and try to stop that!
You'll see, you can't stop this

NTLM and Samba domain - problem with (non-local) logons.
Hello!
I have a quite strange issue with the Samba based NT domain that I administer.
I've triet to search for the solution but none of the information that I had
found seemed to work.
The trouble is that I can't manage to setup a ntlm based authentication. It
applies to both linux and w32 architectures. In the latter case I achieve
some level of usability - I can login locally. If I try to access the page
from a remote computer I receive the usual "Basic" authentication popup.
Samba is configured to keep all the information in a LDAP backend. Apart
from the NTLM everythin...

Why not pthreads on Windows in 'parallel' package?
On Windows there are a few 'pthreads' implementation, e.g.
pthreads-w32 and winpthreads
[https://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/r-devel/R-exts.html#Using-pthreads].
We're thinking of giving them a try for the matrixStats package, and
basic tests indicates it works, but since Windows pthreads are not
used by core R (or?) I've got a little bit worried that we wil...
