[Bridge] <kernel BUG> generated on bridge up/down & other issues
...ewbie-ish email: problem is likely a config issues, but docs appear to be sparse and I can't find much reference to the problem/solution on the 'net; trial and error really isn't working... Am attempting to bridge an offsite network to the central network over the internet with vtun (2.6-4). The configuration I have works intermittently. vtun seems to work reliably - am using the -p (persist) option to force reconnect on disconnect. However I have the following problems: 1) On system startup vtun connects to the server correctly, but the bridge does not come up....

[mh@designassembly.de: [Vtun] Windows port]
Just spotted this on the VTun mailing list. Might be interesting, if there were a TUN/TAP driver for windows it would be a lot easier to make a M$ port of tinc. Not that I feel much motivation to do so... ----- Forwarded message from Michael Heyse <mh@designassembly.de> ----- From: "Michael Heyse" <mh@desig...

vtun -- no IPv6 support?
Reading many comments about vtun available through google searchs seems to imply it supports IPv6. When I install it (v 3.0.2-1) and bind it to an interface that does NOT have IPv4 defined (only v6), start the service, and do a 'netstat -nat|grep 5000', I see it bound to 0.0.0.0:5000, not to the IPv6 0::/128 equiv add...

Glusterfs-2 locks/hangs on EC2/vtun setup
...After a few hours, the mounted volume on all three servers locks. ls'ing a directory on the volume, or typing "df -h" hangs, and won't even 'kill -9'. I have to umount --force the glusterfs volume to get ls or df to terminate. The images communicate with each other over vtun-based tunnels, which I've set up to provide a predictable IP addressing system between the nodes. (IPs assigned by amazon are random.) The logs don't show anything useful. The last thing it tells me about is the handshake that took place a few hours ago. I disabled the performance transla...

Massive confusion
I'm probably thinking way too hard on this... but I've already got a headache. I've setting up a VPN for a client between two sites. Someone had recommended vtun, so I gave it a try. I was VERY put off by the lack of decent documentation. I _think_ I got a VPN set up between the two sites, but it wasn't working right and I gave up because the documentation sucked. So, then I found tinc on freshmeat and installed the 1.0pre2-1 RPMs for Red Hat on both s...

Compiling v6tun from KAME
I need vtun working over IPv6. The version from rpmforge does not seem to support IPv6 (binds to 0.0.0.0:5000 if I specify binding to the interface, and won't let me put in an IPv6 address for address binding). So I was pointed to the KAME (which does not provide any FC/RHEL support. The person who s...

Using tun interface with dladm and flowadm
Hello, I am a rather new user to OpenSolaris and I have been loving every minute of it. I have spent quite a lot of time looking around for bandwidth management features and Project Crossbow is just amazing. It is truly amazing compared to what Linux has to offer. I would like to use flowadm to do some bandwidth management on a tun interface. The problem is that it is not recognized by the dladm

[Bridge] Freezing bridges
...as to what goes wrong. The servers still reply to ping and xinetd-daytime, but ssh is gone, as are the tunnels. The log shows nothing. The hardware watchdog does not reset and seems to keep receiving signals from the kernel module to prevent it from rebooting. I don't know anymore. I replaced vtun with OpenVPN for the ethernet tunneling, but that does not seem to matter. Please advice, I am lost. Would upgrading to kernel 2.6.1 be a valid solution? Am I overreaching the possibilities of the bridging functionality? Am I overlooking some pitfall? With kind and desperate regards, ing. Jeroen...

“Stripped-down” SSH (no encryption or authentication, just forwarding)
There have been many cases where I have found myself in need of a pure forwarding tool that can forward sockets over a single stream. In my use cases, this stream is already secure, so there is no need for the tool to do any encryption or authentication. One specific use-case was forwarding a Docker socket to another VM over QubesOS qrexec qrexec, which uses Xen shared memory, but there are

snooping - the crux of the problem
I have a computer with two interfaces, say with addresses 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. I want to set up routing such that when I ping 192.168.1.1 it goes out through 192.168.1.2 and not to the local interface. Is this possible - all my attempts so far have been unsuccessful? If so, pointers, etc. would be gratefully appreciated. Jim -- Jim Redman (505) 662 5156 x85

[Bridge] new gretap, bridging and mtu
Greetings all, I've setup a new gretap device as per Herbert Xu's new patches and it works as expected for smaller MTU. I'm wondering if gretap tunnels handle fragmentation at all or if this might be a bridge related issue. The same setup works quite well if I use vtun with a tap device however, so while this isn't entirely bridge-related, Maybe someone here might have experienced the same problem or might have insight as to what's causing the problem. I imagine this might be more of an inherent limitation in gretap than a bug but as I am not to good...
