Motherboard capable of VT-d
...equipment (CPU, Memory, TV-cards etc). The requirements/wishes on the new motherboard are 2 Ethernet ports and 2 PCI slots. It would also be good if it would support VT-d. I''ve found two boards that would fulfill my requirements; Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5, Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 According to the VTdHowTo (http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo) X48 chipset supports VT-d. But not all manufactures have enabled it. Does anyone know if VT-d is enabled for the motherboards above (or any other motherboard that would support my requirements)? /Andreas _______________________________________________...

Need some clarifications regarding VT-d requirements for PCI passthrough in Xen 4.1
Hello, I am looking into building a workstation using Xen to host several operating systems. Looking at the pci passthrough requirements of Xen4.1 on the VTdHowTo<http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo>page, I am a little puzzled with the fact that only Intel Core2Duo (with VT-x), Core2Quad, i7 and Core i5 (vPro Brand) CPU''s are supported while motherboards with the i55x0 chipset are supported (for example the Supermicro server mainboard:...

Intel VT-d success
...he BIOS needs to be updated to R0047 for it to be enbled. (or at least later than R0044 which mine was shipped with) I tested exporting a nic to a smothwall hvm domU, works fine. Exporting a 3Ware 9xxx series Raid controller to a WinXP domU also works flawlessly! http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo <- Are there any maintainers here who can update the wiki? My setup: Intel Xeon X3360 Intel S3210SHLX Debian Lenny Dom0 / 2.6.16.8-xen / Xen 3.4.0 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Intel VT-d Support
...e should I look for? And if my installation was really built with VT-d support, how can I be sure, that Xen has successfully initialized VT-d hardware? I have read [1] and the lists archives and found no answers for my question. Thank you in advance. PCI/VGA passthrough and function level reset (FLR)
I''m wondering if FLR really must be supported by the PCI card for PCI/VGA passthrough to work or if it will work anyway. I have read in the VTdHowTo that trying to pass through hardware without the FLR feature will result in an error. At the same time I read on a pdf document on the VMWare website (http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vsp_4_vmdirectpath_host.pdf) that: ----------------------- Reset Method Possible values for the rese...

Error: failed to assign device...VT-d isn''t enabled properly(?)
Dear List, I need to make an Aladdin eToken Pro visible in a Linux guest HVM, but I cannot assign the device to any domU, while it''s being blocked by the dom0. To avoid this trouble I would like to pass the whole USB bus to the domU directly, via PCI passthrough. Now I use xen 3.3.0 from xensource and xen kernel from Ubuntu 8.04 2.6.24-19-xen, because the xensource xen kernel

VT-d support in HVM?
Hi, I''ve recently setup a few machines with 3.2 64bit without any unresolvable problem. These machines all run pv domU''s and a view "basic" hvm domUs. As I''ve got one machine left for internal use and testing, I would like to take a look at pciback with VT-d support (bios screen shows a VT-d [enable|disable]). My question is, do I need to add patches, or use

VGA Passthrough crashes machine
I''ve just had my first attempt at getting VGA passthrough to work, and it crashed the machine. I''m trying to understand whether this is a problem with my hardware, configuration or a software problem. I''m running Xen 4.1.2 with Linux 3.1.2 The CPU is an Intel Core i5-650 http://ark.intel.com/products/43546/Intel-Core-i5-650-Processor-%284M-Cache-3_20-GHz%29 The Video

mainboards with vt-d working
Hi, can someone recommends mainboads+cpu combination with working vt and vt-d for a home server ( means reasonably priced) and with at least 3 pci slots besides the mainboards mentioned in http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo. Would it be worth to wait for AMD iommu technic, which should appear this year ? PCI pass through issue
Hi, all I''m trying SRIOV with Xen but failed to pass through virtual function of SRIOV to dom-U. My platform: Xen-unstable 4.2 Pvops Dom-0 kernel 2.6.32.35 CentOS 5.4 Dom-0 CentOS 5.4 HVM Dom-U And follow VtdHowto wiki page, my steps are: First, bind the virtual function to pci-stub. After that, check the assignable virtual function devices: [root@localhost ~]# xm pci-list-assignable-devices 0000:07:10.0 0000:07:10.1 Next, attach virtual function to dom-U using device hot-plug: [root@localhost ~]# x...

VTd not showing PCI device in VM
I''m having trouble actually seeing a PCI device in my VMs. I''ve resolved several of my issues using previous posts and using the VTdHowTo wiki page. I have both VT and VTd BIOS options enabled. I have pciback hiding the devices and xm can list and assign the devices to VMs. I don''t see the PCI devices in my VMs though. I have tried a windows and a Linux vm, without success. I also made sure I removed the drivers for the...

is Intel VT-d "really" necessary?
Hi all, I'm just curios and would like some input from the community on this one. We're busy budgeting for a couple of new servers and I thought it would be good to try out the Core i7 CPU's, but see the majority of them don't offer VT-d, but just VT-x. Looking at the LGA1366 range, only the "Intel lga1366 i7 980XE" (from the list of what our suppliers stock) have VT-d,

xen, pvops & nvidia graphics
...lp me with this? Also, a little thing that''s annoying me, but is not as critical, is that my Dom0 crashes when xserver starts if graphics drivers are enabled. I assume this is because even Dom0 is not in the correct address space for DMA, and according to http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo, there is no DMA translation for Dom0. I don''t really need my graphics card for Dom0, but if anybody knows a way to get it working I''d appreciate it.
