Helix into Icecast2 loopback
...nd exits without warning, error or success... the funny thing is if I try running the precompiled trplayer with the LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/lib/libmemc++.so (which I compiled with the missing __builtin_vec_new etc functions) prefix it seems to work ok. The problem with that is I cannot pass this into vsound. $ vsound LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/lib/libmemc++.so trplayer rtsp://my.stream.net:554/broadcat/live.rm Doesn't work because the extra preload argument isn't passed into vsound correctly. ARG! I guess my only option left is to recompile vsound with the preload bit included... Otherwise I gi...

Helix into Icecast2 loopback
Hello. I've made some progress on the issue. I found a tool called TrPlayer which is a text mode front end for real player - initially developed for the use of the visually impaired. The theory is that I can use this and pipe the live stream into vsound which then in turn is passed into ices or another source client. Trouble is, I'm having all sorts of trouble compiling Trplayer on the latest RedHat... something about __pure_virtual being an undefined symbol...?? Regarding Helix, I am using a Real server not the Helix Community open source ve...

capturing sound from /dev/dsp
Hi list, I am wondering if there is any way that I can have an application listen to what is being sent to /dev/dsp, say ogg123 or something, and encode that and send it off to an icecast server. Hmmm, I probalby didn't explain that overly well. OK, I can use darkice to capture what is sent to line-in and send that off to an icecast server, but in this instance, I want to capture what is

[fwd] help encoding low-quality audio please
...dio streams. As is, they are of a quality similar to fair AM quality. They are of large sentimental value. I have read the archives back through November, and I am following the recent "lo-fi sound" thread, but I am still left with questions. What I have started to do so far is to use vsound to convert the 12.5 Kbps streams to .au files. The files that result are by default created as 16 bit, 11025 samples/second. Thus, a typical (for me) 3 hour recording is very roughly 500 MB. I want to compress these and burn them to CD. My goal is to have them for many years (yes, I know I will...
