Intel vPro performance gains?
...I am a computer science student and
would I like to do more with virtualization. I want to run Windows as
well as Linux VMs with graphics passthrough at the least performance
loss possible (obviously).
I would like to know if, and if yes, how much you can gain if your
motherboard supports the vPro features of the current generation of
Intel-chipsets(4th. core i). I would use an i7 4770 with a Q87-mainboard
if there is a major gain to be expected, but resort to an i7 4770K with
a Z87 for OC, in case the gain is not that big. Does anyone of you have
experience with how the presence/absence...

CentOS 6 and Intel vPro?
Needed to set up a cluster where horsepower and cost were paramount, so
I thought this would be a good opportunity to try out Intel's business
class "vPro AMT" remote administration technology, and compare it to
IPMI, which I've used for years on servers. From a feature standpoint,
it seems quite impressive, going to far as using standards-based VNC!
Unfortunately, set up is quite a bear, with most of a day spent and
while I can remote p...

Xen 3.2.1, Intel DQ35JO tips
...get it from Sourceforge.
(I''m running kernel 2.6.21)
3. VT-d is not available unless you enable it on the Xen command line
(not just in the BIOS). Xen prints a non-intuitive error message
suggesting that VT-d is not available, when in fact it''s just not turned on.
4. The AMT/vPro management function seems to work just fine with Xen & Linux

Intel CPU Comparison
I would like to gain some idea of the XCP impact of these two CPU
versions:
Intel
Core i7-2600, 3.4 GHz
Core i7-2600K, 3.5 GHz
Both have VT-x
Differences
2600K does not include:
Embedded Opions Available
vPro Technology
Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O
Trusted Execution Technology
Is the difference critical?
Thanks,

Finally cracked the mystery of motherboards with Vt-d support
After contacting Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, this is what I got back.
Only motherboards with the QXX chipsets and certified with the Intel
VPro support the Vt-d virtualization technology.
I''m not sure about MSI though, because this is what I got from their
support: "Almost board could support. Please refer to our website,
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/."
The problem is that QXX chipset are only used for mini and micr...

Need some clarifications regarding VT-d requirements for PCI passthrough in Xen 4.1
...into building a workstation using Xen to host several operating
systems.
Looking at the pci passthrough requirements of Xen4.1 on the
VTdHowTo<http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo>page, I am a
little puzzled with the fact that only Intel Core2Duo (with
VT-x), Core2Quad, i7 and Core i5 (vPro Brand) CPU''s are supported while
motherboards with the i55x0 chipset are supported (for example the Supermicro
server mainboard:
X8DT3-F<http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DT3-F.cfm>
).
The irony in all this it that above this list of supported CPU''s...

multi-isp, dhcp provider and gateway type detect
I think we discussed this in the past and I floated a hack at the time,
but I don''t recall any real resolution. I want to see if time has
solved my problem or if it still exists.
My scenario is that I have two ISPs, one of which uses DHCP. Because I
have two ISPs, history has shown that allowing the provisioning script
for the interface to plumb a default route is troublesome and

swapping mountpoints
Hi,
is it possible to swap and/or delete mountpoints on an icecast2 server?
I need this so I can start another stream on the same mountpoint.
