Unable to connect to smb shares from second machine in workgroup
I have a pretty simply home LAN with a Linux box (Mandrake 9.1) and 2 XP
boxes. The workgroup is named UNIVERSE and the machines are earth
(Linux), voyager (XP) and starbase (XP). (smb.conf has security=user).
Voyager can browse over to \\earth\share no problem. Recently I
connected starbase to my LAN using a wireless router. When on starbase I
cannot browse to \\earth\share. When I do so I get prompted for a
username/password. No username/passw...

paravirt_ops queue rebased
...the sched_clock paravirt-op. Are there still problems with either your
sched_clock patch or the paravirt patch? Should I resubmit the
paravirt-sched_clock patch based on git?
The only other general patches before the Xen series I have left in my
queue are:
i386-common-smp.patch
i386-fix-voyager-build.patch
vsyscall-note-use-elfnote_h.patch
I obviously don't depend the voyager patch, but I tweaked it a bit to
apply to the current git tree.
How is your patch queue looking now? Is there much left?

[PATCH] i386: introduce voyager smp_ops, fix voyager build
This adds an smp_ops for voyager, and hooks things up appropriately.
This is the first baby-step to making subarch runtime switchable.

The virtuailization patches break Voyager.
...some extent I grant with major changes a little goofing up on
pending patches is to be expected, but it would be nice if
things were restructured to make it harder to miss the
subarchitectures on arch/i386.
The patch known as x86_64-mm-use-per-cpu-gdt-immediately-upon-boot
on -mm currently breaks voyager smp support in some very obvious ways.
Making init_gdt a function which is called from voyager_smp.c static
in smpboot.c a file that is not even used on voayger is an obvious
one.
Adding start_pda and not setting it in voyager_smp is another.
Rusty do you think you can address this?

Does anyone know how to lookup a domain's DNS name with its NetBIOS name ?
And how to do the reverse?
Thanks a lot.

MeetMe() and dahdi_dummy on an embedded system
I'm playing around with an ALIX 2D2 board (http://www.pcengines.ch/alix2d2.htm). It's a fanless, x86 system using an AMD Geode processor with 256MB of RAM. Also available are two network interfaces, two USB ports and one serial port (no keyboard or VGA). I'm using the Voyage Linux distro, which basically is Debian Lenny optimized for this board.
Asterisk 1.6.1.12 runs fine on the system. The only issue I'm having is with MeetMe(). As there's no DAHDI devices attached, I'm running dahdi_dummy. Audio gets all choppy on MeetMe(), but works fine for other app...

Anyone using LG Voyager (vx10000) with dovecot IMAP?
Anyone using the mobile IMAP option on the LG Voyager (mobile phone)
with dovecot? I think it costs $5 extra per month. Seems low enough
just to try it and find out. Thanks

Asterisk on Pcengines Alix board
Hi all,
I have successfully compiled and installed Asterisk on an Alix board
(AMD Geode 500 Mhz + 256 Mb RAM) on top of Voyage linux (a Debian
variant).
I'm using it at home for a month.
I wondered how much it could be loaded, so I tested it with pbx-test:
I could place up to 15 simultaneous SIP calls before it got no more
responsive.
All in all a good, stable and cheap solution for home and home-office
environments...

Preloading WINS registrations
...odes so WINS is a bit essential. To bring it back I do a smb stp smb start and off it goes. Now this is fine as far as it goes but any PCs updating at that time can get a little upset. There are 500 odd smbd running at any one time.
For example these are the entries when it is registered:
"VOYAGER#00" 983543441 172.16.12.100 44R
"VOYAGER#03" 983543441 172.16.12.100 44R
"VOYAGER#20" 983543441 172.16.12.100 44R
I understand the #0x corresponds to the entry type but what is the 9 digit number to the right of that ?
Can I get away with creating my own entries in the...

winbind question
...shell = /bin/zsh
template homedir = /fs/home/%U
All installation tests seem to work OK. I create a group and a user
(username smt) with samba-tool, and add the appropriate loginShell,
unixHomeDirectory, uidNumber and gidNumber attributes. The "wbinfo -i smt"
command gives:
VOYAGER\smt:*:1000:100::/fs/home/smt:/bin/zsh
while "getent passwd smt" gives:
VOYAGER\smt:*:1000:100::/fs/home/smt:/bin/zsh
The things that I don't understand are the absence of gecos, and the
(uid, gid) of (1000,100). Both the uid and gid are wrong. I don't know
where winbind is...

Windows 10 SysVol and GPO problems
...The error given by Windows is βThe processing of group policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domain.com.au <smb://domain.com.au>β etc.
Its interesting because access is denied with the file path to sysvol as the domain but when the domain name of the server is used it works (β\\voyager.domain.com.au <http://voyager.domain.com.au/>β). This is the domain name used by Windows 8.1 when running gpupdate /force
Another note is when navigating to Sysvol as Administrator I am denied access but if I used the machine domain name it works.
Thanks in advance for the help.
