Tiering Volumns
Hello everyone. I have a new GlusterFS setup with 3 servers and 2 volumes. The "HotTier" volume uses Nvme and the "ColdTier" volume uses HDD's. How do I specify the tiers for each volume? I will be adding 2 more HDDs to each server. I would then like to change from a Replicate to Distributed-Replicated. Not sure if that makes a difference in the tiering setup. [root at

About File locking
Is there a way to lock an EXE file on a shared volumn in such a way that only one person can use it at a time? With some kind of sharing violation happening if a second person tries? This is the latest version of SAMBA on a Linux box, and Win95 clients. many thanks. Tony Nichols tnichols@bedford-ind.com.au Network Support Officer Bedford Indust...

G729 and Meetme
I have noticed that when I try to connect multiple G729 VoIP devices into a MeetMe conference that I can only add up to the number of G729 licenses I have. Now I would think that because all the devices are G729, this wouldn't be the case and the only license that would ever be used would be if a non G729 device or Zap channel was a part of the Meetme conference. This is apparently note the

Degrees of Freedom for lme.
Hi, I am trying to run a linear mixed effect model on data. I have 17 longitudinal subjects and 36 single subjects, and this is the code I'm using (below). So, INDEX1 is the column with brain volumns, and the predictors are gort and age, by time ID (time they were seen). I believe my data is set up the right way, but when I run it, I get DF for Intercept is 49, and DF for slope is 13? Why? lme.gort=lme(Volume ~ GORT_FLUENCY+AGE, random = ~ 1 | TIMEID, data = subset(vol_data, INDEX1==...

Standard error of standard deviation: bootstrap or theoretical results?
...n of a sub-block-sample (sample size 250). I take 100 this kind of sub-block-sample, randomly. For these 100 subsamples, I use the following 3 methods to calculate the standard error of standard deviation: 1. From book "Handbook of applicable mathematics", Walter Ledermann (chief editor) Volumn VI: Statistics, Part A, Lloyd, John Wiley & Sons. Page 30-32: var(S) = (mu4 - mu2^2)/(4 * mu2 * n) mu4 = E(X - mu)^4, mu2 = E(X - mu)^2, S^2 = sum(X - mu)^2/n The results are about: 0.00090 2. From http://davidmlane.com/hyperstat/A19196.html The results are about 0.00066 3. From http:/...

LiveCD System recovery - Mounting LVM?
Hi, I am trying to recover data from my old system which had LVM. The disk had two partitions - /dev/sda1 (boot, Linux) and /dev/sda2 (Linux LVM). I had taken a backup of both partitions using dd. Now I am booting of CentOS live cd for system restore. I recreated partitions like previous system using fdisk and then used dd to dump all the data onto it. I would like to mount sda2 as LVM, but I

replace x86 with x64 system and reuse existing LVM
I want to replace an existing 32bit with a 64bit installation (Centos 5). There's an existing LVM with lots of partitions. Most are used for Xen guests. The system itself uses only one of them plus a separate /boot partition that is not on LVM. What's the best course of action here? Should I do the reinstall with kickstart or better manually and reuse the existing filesystem? As I

Samba 2.2.8a Large File Support Issues
...ption of Problem: I am having problems trying to access large files (>2GB) on mounted smbfs volumes. To clarify, I am attempting to view large files that exist on an NT server, from my Linux box, and getting erroneous results. Related Info: When attempting to list files on the smbfs volumne from my Linux box, the file sizes come out as really strange numbers. For example, I have a file called 'vision_jan.zip' which I know to be roughtly 12Gig. But when I try to list the file my Linux box, it looks like this. # ls vision_jan.zip -l -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 184467...

Mount Point Ownership & Group
I am facing problems assigning the owner and group to an ext3 filesystem being mounted from an external storage. I created a mount point /vol and changed its owner and group to alpha and beta respectively (as required). The ext3 filesystem (LV from the external storage) was then mounted on /vol using the mount command. However, after mounting the filesystem the owner and group of /vol changed
