Configuration details for Asterisk interaction with Vocal
I have seen a number of people in this newsgroup asking for information
regarding asterisk interworking with Vocal. I was able to configure
Vocal and Asterisk so that calls originating from vocal can land on an
extension in Asterisk. I would like to share this info with the group
The scenario that I tested was as follows.
A call was originated from extn. 1001 on Vocal and the call was made to
land on extens...

Fair comparison
I was trying to do a little searching to see if there has even been a
comparison between Asterisk and VOCAL or any of the other OSS packages?
"Practical Voice Over IP using VOCAL" published by O'Reilly and
Associates, attempts to make a strong case about how scalable VOCAL. Of
course, considering that the book is written by the makers of VOCAL, it
tends to have a one sided slant.
Maybe we...

simple question on sip.conf
Hi folks,
I want to fix hole in my asterisk set up.
I use Vocal as my sip proxy and * for voice mail and the g/w to PSTN,
Iconnect, fwd etc. So from Vocal I redirect sip requests which needs to go
'other' places. This senario works fine.
Now the issue is someone else running a vocal or another SIP proxy can
redirect his calls to my * as well. Those cal...

DTMF
I am trying to connect to a vocal server from an asterisk server. A call
is received via iax2 to my asterisk server. I then initiate a SIP
connection to the vocal server. everything works great except dtmf
doesnt work. A cisco 5300 can connect to this vocal server and do dtmf
without a problem. I have my dtmf set to rfc2833 in...

Talking SIP to Vocal
I'm trying to get Asterisk to talk SIP to Vocal and so far have only
managed to get it partially working. Calls in from Vocal are working
fine but outbound calls aren't.
In sip.conf I have:

Accessibility of Cairo/OpenGL text: ATK without GTK?
Hello.
While playing with Compiz window switchers (there are several) I noticed
that the selected window name is displayed but not vocalized by the
screen reader.
I was initially surprised after discovering that the window title is not
drawn with GTK; but I understand that Compiz itself does not actually
depend on GTK --- only the GTK window decorator and CCSM use it. So
Compiz renders text using Cairo on top of an OpenGL surface,...

Integrate Speex into VOCAL
Hello!
I'm about to try to integrate SPEEX into the VOCAL project.
If anyone has any pointers as to the best way to do this,
please let me know.
After reading the speex api man page, I have a few questions:
1) To encode, it appears I need an array of floats. If
I am playing wav files, what is the best way to turn these
into something speex can encode...

Reception of vocal SMSs to landlines.
...oicemail, each user having his own setup. In such cases, the SMS will
_never_ be delivered as:
. after we Answer() the call, the operator send immediately the audio
SMS. At this time we are just parsing dialplan to see what to do with
the call. If the call is to forward, operator hangup -end of vocal SMS-
before the called party could take the call.
. if sending to voicemail, with or without Answer(), and as generally
you send audio before recording (eg "Our office is currently close,
blabla ..."), during this time the SMS is already readed! You just catch
the last audio from oper...

Asterisk vs. Vocal (Vovida) vs. Bayonne
Folks,
I love Asterisk, have been using it for a while now. I'd like to know if
anyone has some good comparison points on Asterisk vs. Vocal (Vovida) vs.
GNU Bayonne. I know only a little about the later two.
Also, one drawback I've hard about Asterisk (not for me, but for general
consumption/deployment) is easy of configuration -- people like GUIs. They
want point-n-click. I'm a "vi" guy with CLI preferences. Gas...

Asterisk and Nuance Vocalizer TTS Engine
Hi,
How can I integrate Asterisk to Nuance TTS engine instead of Cepstral?
Has anybody done this? How is the architecture and can Java AGI be used to
communicate between them?

SPA-3000 is translating vocal sounds into DTMF
I'm sure there must be a setting I'm missing somewhere, so I thought I
might was well ask here.
Conversations are punctuated by sudden replacement of a given syllable
or so of conversation with a DTMF tone.
I would hope perhaps there's some kind of setting that has to do with
the way it detects inband DTMF? I'm pretty sure it's an artifact of
this particular ATA; my

Problem with new version of R: Mutated vocals
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I have recently installed the latest version of R (4.3.3) for windows. Now I have the following problems with mutated vowels like ?, ?, etc. Here is an example:
If I type the command:
Dir <- "C/Users/macho/Documents/_LVn/Experimentelle ?bungen"
in the R console there is no problem. However, if I put the same command into a source file (e.g. Test.r) and call

some listening tests
...encoded with oggenc -b 128, there is a sort of stereo separation
in the drums, while in the original they are 'solidly' positioned in the
stereo field. This also occurs with -b 160 and is barely audible with
-b 192.
ftp://slumber.dhs.org/tmp/beetles.wav.bz2
In this one there is a breathy vocal that becomes noisy and has the same
stereo effect as above. This is audible with -b 128 through -b 256.
In each of these, the part of the sound in which the artifact is audible
is a panned mono sound mixed with stereo sounds, and I can't hear it
with samples that are just a panned mono sound....
