Large vmalloc segments with PXELINUX
Hello,
I'm having a challenge with increasing vmalloc memory beyond
512M using pxelinux.0 to boot.
This config works fine:
---
# Configuration file
# linux-2.6.20-1.2962.fc6
DEFAULT linux
LABEL linux
kernel kernels/vmlinuz-2.6.20-1.2962.fc6
append initrd=initrds/bladeinitrd-2.6.20-1.2962.fc6.img
enforcing=0 vmalloc=512M
---
If I increase vmalloc to 513M, I get errors

GFP_REPEAT usage in vhost_net_open resp. vhost_vsock_dev_open
Hi Michael,
I am currently cleaning up opencoded kmalloc with vmalloc fallback users
[1] and my current kvmalloc_node helper doesn't support GFP_REPEAT
because there are no users which would need it. At least that's what I
thought until I've encountered vhost_vsock_dev_open resp.
vhost_vsock_dev_open which are trying to use GFP_REPEAT for kmalloc.

Maybe it's time to have the SG code handle vmalloced pages? This is
becoming more and more common with vmapped stacks (and some of our
workarounds are hideous -- allocate 4 bytes with kmalloc because we can't
DMA onto the stack any more?). We already have a few places which do
handle sgs of vmalloced addresses, such as the nx crypto driver:...
