Linux auto idle logout & vlock possible security problem
There''s a possible security problem using auto idle logout programs and vt
lockers.
Try the following:
get the pid of your shell,
(sleep 10s ; kill -HUP <pid-of-your-shell) &
vlock -a
after vlock -a, you can''t change the virtual console on a Linux terminal.
But if you log in, start vlock -a, enter your password you can change
vt...
The same happens when an auto idle logout program logs you off. The vlock
(maybe lockvt also) program doesn''t terminate itse...

screen locking - pam and xscreensaver
...s to be disabled, and only tty was used, what would be the
best option for ensuring the logged-in session was locked after a
determined amount of inactivity>
Also, if the user stepped away from the system and wanted to manually lock
it, what is the best tty screen-locking utility? I reviewed vlock, but
after prompting me for my password, it then prompted for root's. That was
less than helpful.
Thanks.

Porting OpenSSH's authentication to PNIAM

Authentication token Simple checks, cracklib;
validation:
Miscellaneous: pniam_rootok, pniam_count,pniam_nologin, pniam_allow
and pniam_deny.
We also incorporated PNIAM support in a quite a few, but important
applications:
- passwd
- su
- chfn
- vlock
- FTP
- RADIUS
- OpenSSH
We consider OpenSSH as a crucial component of PNIAM-aware infrastructure. We
ported all
authentication schemes supported in OpenSSH 2.3.1p1: SSH1, SSH2 including
keyboard-interactive,
(although discussion with Martin Forssen showed that our implementation is

floppy disk controller broken
Hello,
when testing FreeBSD-7.1-BETA i discovered that the floppy disk
controller doesn't work correctly. Trying to format a floppy (perhaps
with bad blocks) i get:
Processing fdformat: ioctl(FD_FORM): Device not configured
instead of the normal E letter. I then checked the same problem is
present on FreeBSD-6.3 and it has been reported by Beech Rintoul (*) in
2006! Of course the floppy disk

Fwd: oops with 2.4.18 and preempt patch, on SMP + ext3 machine
...Robert Love <rml@tech9.net>
Subject: oops with 2.4.18 and preempt patch, on SMP + ext3 machine
Coming back home tonight, I found my machine in a bad state, as shown by the
attached kern.log extract (including last usual message and all lines until
reboot). I had left the machine under "vlock -a", and the console was
filled with all sort of oops messages onscreen, all of which appear to be
listed in the log.
I first attempted to switch to another console (which (afterthought)
presumably lockvc still disallowed, although I interpreted the non-switching
as being caused by the kernel...

zfs defragmentation via resilvering?
Hello all,
I understand that relatively high fragmentation is inherent
to ZFS due to its COW and possible intermixing of metadata
and data blocks (of which metadata path blocks are likely
to expire and get freed relatively quickly).
I believe it was sometimes implied on this list that such
fragmentation for "static" data can be currently combatted
only by zfs send-ing existing

ocfs2 can not mount for nodes. first time installation
Error: mount.ocfs2: Transport endpoint is not connected while
mounting /dev/sdc1 on /u02, could not mount /dev/sdc1.
The installation step is:
1. install all rpms on int-rac1, int-rac2
2. interconnect int-rac1, int-rac2, ping each other using private ip and public
ip ok. Add EMC SAN as shared disk and visable for two nodes.
3. configure int-rac1 using ocfs2console, add two nodes
