Host key verification (known_hosts) with ProxyJump/ProxyCommand
...indicate this feature has been around since at least 2017, so should not cause compatibility issues with the other users. No problems, I just tried it out, and already, things are a _lot_ more sane. I'll give it a try more long-term and see how it fares. -- Stuart Longland (aka Redhatter, VK4MSL) I haven't lost my mind... ...it's backed up on a tape somewhere.

...ing that repository was protected and "trusted", it would enable all members of a team to automatically "trust" the host key with minimal infrastructure set-up. Are any of the above ideas feasible? Did I miss an obvious solution to this? -- Stuart Longland (aka Redhatter, VK4MSL) I haven't lost my mind... ...it's backed up on a tape somewhere.

Security of ssh across a LAN, public key versus password
I have a small LAN at home with nine or ten systems on it running various varieties of Linux. I 'do things' on the LAN either from my dekstop machine or from my laptop, both run Xubuntu 24.04 at the moment. There's a couple of headless systems on the LAN where login security is important to me and I've been thinking about the relative merits of password and public-key
