VisualHostKey vs. RekeyLimit vs. VerifyHostKeyDNS
Hello list, I'm not sure whether this is bug worthy or just my own insanity. I'm using 6.4p1 packages from Debian jessie and wheezy-backports. I like VisualHostKey, although it may not add any protection (other than not trusting ones own known_hosts file?), I've become accustomed to it as it seems that extra neurons fire when I log into a host and get a visual cue of what looks like a strawberry or jester hat and suddenly a catalog of frequent commands re...

specific Host not overriding global Host
My config file contains Host * VisualHostKey yes Host app VisualHostKey no however when I ssh into app I still see the VisualHostKey. It is my understanding that the more specific host should override the global defaults. When I asked on IRC they told me to report the issue to this mailing list. I know my version of OpenSSH is old, but I c...

choice of fingerprint display upon new host access
When a user encounters a new ssh host, the VisualHostKey option makes ssh display the visual fingerprint of the host's key. ssh-keygen also supports BubbleBabble fingerprinting, but i don't see a way to indicate that ssh should display the bubblebabble fingerprint upon encountering a new host key. It seems like it would be nice to make OpenSSH...

Random Art Size
Dear openssh team, thanks for all your great work! I just recently discovered random art and I think it's brilliant! My VisualHostKey flag is set. It does take up a fair amount of terminal real estate, though. Would it be possible to rotate the rectangle to be horizontal so it takes up less vertical space? e.g. +----------[ RSA 2048 ]----------+ | *@E+o+ | | . ..+B +.. | |...

ssh-agent hides sk "confirm user presence" message
...-help", "--author", "--license", and Qt-specific ones)? As far as I know, they would all require a (in the OP's use case, *second*) user interaction to close them again, and are pretty much unusable for any *multiline* notifications (say, something similar to "VisualHostKey=yes") ... However, IIUC the real problem with the OP's request is that it is indeed the *agent* asking (or not ...) the user to complete the authentication, whereas in the empty-agent version, it's the *ssh* command - which *is* connected to a terminal - doing so. Hence, the promp...

OpenSSH 5.1: call for testing
...the ChangeLog in the portable OpenSSH tarballs. Thanks to the many people who contributed to this release. New features: * Introduce experimental SSH Fingerprint ASCII Visualisation to ssh(1) and ssh-keygen(1). Visual fingerprinnt display is controlled by a new ssh_config(5) option "VisualHostKey". The intent is to render SSH host keys in a visual form that is amenable to easy recall and rejection of changed host keys. This technique inspired by the graphical hash visualisation schemes known as "random art[*]", and by Dan Kaminsky's musings at 23C3 in Berlin....
