Libtheora
Hi all,
I am Sahana. I am currently working on Libtheora for windows platform and
very new to it. I am getting a lot of compiling errors. Since Libtheora
depends on libogg and libvorbis i have added these as well to my workspace
in VC++ 6. I have a doubt regarding the x86 and x86_vc folders described in
the libtheora software.Since both these folders have the same set of files
which one do we

bad performance Vista <-> Samba over gbit
Hi,
I've a strange issue with the performance of file transfers between a
Samba server and a Vista client.
My configuration looks like this:
fileserver: Samba 3.3 on FreeBSD 6.2 ----- gbit switch -----
workstation: Vista x64
When transfering files between the two PCs, I get abount 6.5 to 7 MB /
sec. On my last Vista installation I got about 40 MB / sec. I've tried
the following:
- raw t...

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi,
This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista
clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba
configurations.
After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general
problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other
vista versions) in creating files and folders on networ...

Help on deleting partitions
Hi,
I have this dual boot Vista-CentOS.
I have one NTFS for Vista, and three for CentOS.
I boot to both OS through grub.
Unfortunately, I'm going to need the CentOS space for Vista :( :( :(
So my question is: if I remove the CentOS partitions *from within Vista*
with its tool for it, will I be able to still boot Vista ?
I...

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list,
I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened).
So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there? Ideally, I'd like to find a decent op...

access problem on linux mounted Windows Vista share
Windows Workgroup, private network with a Windows Vista PC sharing a folder
for full access to a specific user name. The share is browsable and
readable from other PCs on the network.
I can mount the share on linux (Debian /Ubuntu) with no errors BUT have no
permissions on the mount point once mounted (see below).
# mkdir data
# mount -t smbfs -o use...

Vista Read/Write performance
Hello.
I am setting up a smb server running debian etch for a small office.
Due to circumstances outside my control, most of the client machines are
running Windows Vista Ultimate. The shares are all set up properly,
security is set, and we're good to go.
Except that the throughput from any of the Vista machines to the server
is at best slow and at worst abysmal. After tweaking the socket
options, turning off various services in windows (Remote Differentia...

Windows Vista Issues
This is a repost of a simple question about Windows Vista and R (with
answer), along with a heads-up on other Windows Vista issues that people may
not be aware of and that may impact R development.
1. The standard package install process fails because the user does not
have permission to write to Program Files/R/R-version/library. Apparently
the install...

Browsning problems from Vista
I have a setup where a Vista machine that is behind a NAT connects to a Linux (debian) machine to access SMB shares on that machine. The connection is made with VPN using L2TP/IPSec. I have configured the Linux machine to act as WINS server and PPP will give the Vista machine a new IP on the same subnet and also tell Vista tha...

Windows Vista 64-bit support
Where does the R build for Vista X64 stand? The last update message is
from July last year (see [R] Improved Windows Vista compatibility from
Prof Brian Ripley on 2007-07-11). Is it likely to happen in 2008? I
suspect that more people will start using it as Vista is adopted more
widely. And I'd certainly use it for lar...

Vista can't use samba hosted printer drivers
Is anyone else seeing Vista (final) will not "connect" to a samba-hosted
printer? I'm getting error 0x00000057. I can connect to the port only
and install a local driver, though. It's just that the drivers will not load
correctly. The drivers do load partly, because I can see driver-specific
attributes if I...

Samba and Vista profile probs
Hi all, I've got some problems with vista sp1 + samba 3.0.28a
vista will not save the profiles nor load them. !
I'm all familiar with the .V2 thing.
vista however does create the "profilename.V2" directory, but does not
populate it with the data
Xp machines work like a charm however.
profiles path's are: \\<server>...

Some Vista Info reguarding Profiles
Hi All,
I just started really looking into deploying Vista in a Domain
Environment and here is some info I gathered so far:
With Vista, Microsoft Updated their "profiles" to version 2, thus Vista
profiles will not co-exist with previous Windows profiles. To alleviate
the need to specify a different profile for Vista, Microsoft decided to
automa...

Bringing Vista's Speech Recognition Engine to Linux via Wine
I have RSI (hurty hands) and need software for recognition of continuous speech.
Linux has nothing workable. Dragon was bad even on Windows.
What's needed is a Linux speech engine, so that the linux crew can get making a good GUI.
So I'm trying to bring over the Vista Speech Engine. Here's my (failed) attempt: http://womblezone.blogspot.com/
I'm trying to bring it over with the GUI (Speech Assistant). Idea being if that works, it's proof the engine's ported correctly. Well it's not working.
regsvr32 c:/windows/system32/Speech/SpeechUX/...

Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello!
It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain.
Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the
system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel).
But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore.
Microsoft points out that joining NT4-...

Vista Ultimate 32-bit install - VNC woes
Hi,
I''m running Xen server based on OpenSuSE 11 (Xen version
3.2.1_16881_04-4.2). I have several Linux DomU''s that run perfect.
Now I need a temporary Vista install (for testing) so I used
''virt-manager'' to install Vista. I used LVM based setup, Vista got 4GB
of memory (at least temporary) and 2 CPU''s.
Initially things look good - I get the console window, Vista starts up
and I get to choose the language & keyboard layou...
