EOL conversion??
Hi,
I've checked all the docs I can find and this top icisn't mentioned,
so I'm guessing there is no such thing, but I have users who swear
that VisionFS used to automatically convert unix text files to
windows text files (change the EOL to have both a carriage return
and a newline, instead of just a newline). I think the user is
mistaken, but just wanted to check. Is there a way for an SMB
service to do this, and if so, how can I configure SAMBA...

All I'm looking for is, when a user wants to access a share that the user is authenticated
against the domain and if they are a valid user grant them access.
I have this configuration running with VisionFS on SCO/Unix and just trying to replicate
this environment.
With Samba I keep getting messages like:
could not fetch trust account password for domain.
Any help on how to configure it to do this would be appreciated.

Michel,
I struggled with this same problem with VisionFS (A SCO Unix commercial
equivalent to Samba) for aaaaaages. I'm no Unix expert or Samba for that
matter, but below is what tech support finally told us to do which, fixed
the problem.
I'm attaching the instructions in hopes that it'll give you some clues as to

Samba Open Server 5 package?
Hello,
I'm having trouble installing Samba on a SCO Open Server 5 system. I have gone over the Skunkware CD and the Caldera Website. I can find TAR'd versions of SAMBA but for some reason it won't let me start smbd or nmbd without giving me a core dump.
Does anyone know either
1. why I'm getting the core dumps
or
2. If there is a package install for OSv5.
The reason I ask

Dear Samba Team,
I have this error executing the smbclient program on a SCO Unix Open Server 5.0.2 :
dynamic linker : smbclient : error opening /usr/local/lib/libncurses.so.4

I checked it, but I don't have any library with that name.
What can I do?

Strange files
Hello,
I am using Samba 2.0.3 on my FreeBSD 2.2.7 box.
Works fine.
It is already running for a few months with a small amount of windows95
users and last week we decided to move all our userfiles from our SCO box
with visionfs over to the Samba machine.
No problems so far.
But, strange files are appearing in the directorys of the NT40 workstation
users.
Under Unix they look like Ne00: or Ne01: or Ne04: and so on.
The highest I have seen is Ne05:
Once they are there the stay the same.
If you look at them from the windows...

Samba 3.0.23c won't let NT4 access shares
...access a Samba 3.0.23c server.
\\Omega300\files is not accessable
The specific network password is not correct.
omega300 is the samba server, running samaba 3.0.23.c on SCO Openserver 5.0.7.
omg180 is a Windows NT4 SP4 box.
omega is a Windows 98 box.
Passwords are not encrypted. We are also using VisionFS (SCO's smb product,
which they no longer supply) on an Openserver 5.0.4 box and unencrypted
passwords make life simpler. There is no problem acessing the VisionFS share
from any Windows machine.
The Win98 box, omega, has no problem accessing the Samba share and neither
does an Win XP box....

I am running 2.03 on SCO OS 5.04 and a customer is running 2.05a on 5.05

Before you start to implement Samba on a SCO OpenServer you should check if
you have installed one of the following SCO software on the system:
SCO VisionFS
SCO Advanced File and Print Server
LAN Manager Client
Microsoft Client Software
SCO PC-Interface for UNIX
Some of these software implement a real NetBIOS stack on the system. You
will then have in /etc/rc2.d a file named i.e. S87netbios (I am not sure
about the number). Some others are using th...

Binary packages for Openserver 5.0.7
Are there any new binary packages of Samba for Openserver 5.0.7? We have been using Visionfs with XP workstations, but with Windows 7 looming, we will need to make the transition to Samba. The version of Samba that comes with Openserver 5.0.7 is 3.0.20, but I'm sure that version is too old to work with Win7. Any direction in this regard would be appreciated. Thanks.

Need more details. Are you running Samba as a PDC? Have you looked
at a level 10 debug log for the point of the failure? Are you using
encrypted passwords?

...and as a PDC I now have a problem with
two clients on the network which I cannot access through network
neighborhood. I get "\\machinename is not accessible access denied." If
I map network shares using the \\machinename\sharename it works fine.
One machine is Windows 98 the other is SCO VisionFS, they are the only
two machine of these types.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple.
