Just need to vent
...ur last RH derivative, and perhaps our last Linux. At the moment we are withholding any judgement on the matter for want of clear empirical evidence respecting systemd's benefits and risks. On our test CentOS-7 systems we eventually switched to Mate. That in itself sorted out most of the most visceral negativity to RHEL7. But systemd, rightly or wrongly, remains a controversial issue here. And, being more interested in stability than features we will await further developments on that front. Maybe someone could convince Linus to embed an init processor into the kernel in a manner similar to h...

New logo for CentOS
To celebrate CentOS as the greatest thing since sliced bread, we should endevour to have a new logo in place. Whilst the current one suffices, a new logo/favicon should be in place. My artistry skills are not good (i was eating hotdogs whilst the rest of the class learned fine art), so those of you artistically endowed should come up with something.

testthat 0.6
# testthat Testing your code is normally painful and boring. `testthat` tries to make testing as fun as possible, so that you get a visceral satisfaction from writing tests. Testing should be fun, not a drag, so you do it all the time. To make that happen, `testthat`: * Provides functions that make it easy to describe what you expect a function to do, including catching errors, warnings and messages. * Easily integrates in your existing...

Displaying a distribution -- was: Combining two histograms
I am immediately reminded of something I read which goes "A sufficiently trained statistician can read the vagaries of a Q-Q plot like a sharman can read a chicken's entrails, with a similar recourse to scientific principles. Interpreting Q-Q plots is more a visceral than an intellectual exercise. The uninitiated are often mystified by the process. Experience is the key here." http://www.maths.murdoch.edu.au/units/statsnotes/samplestats/qqplot.html Having said that I would suggest many people have difficulty understanding density plots, but think that th...
