[Dovecot/VirtualUsers/VirtualMailBoxes] No mails into mua
Hi all, I've configured postfix with multiple host and virtual mailboxes
(main.cf is here: http://pastebin.com/798VVxbv).
So I can receive email to vuser at mydomain.tld into
/var/mail/vhosts/mydomain.tld/vuser file. Now I'm configuring dovecot 2.2.13-r1;
this is my dovecot -n and /etc/dovecot/passwddir/mydomain.tld/passwd:

How to create home directories for virtual users?
Hello,
I,m using Dovecot 1.2.9, now finishing a migration from Courier IMAP.
Documentation (http://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home) says that home
directory should not be the same as mail directory. When I create new user
accounts with PostfixAdmin the mail directory is not a problem but is there
some smart way to create the home directory as well (locating it for instance
in '/srv/vmail/%d/%n/home')?

iterate_query with static userdb ?
Hi,
Going by the "static userdb" example? on this page (https://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers#homedirs), tried to achieve a similar setup in conjunction with pgsql for passdb.
However I get an error "auth: Warning: sql: Ignoring changed iterate_query in /etc/dovecot/local_sql_users.conf, because userdb sql not used. (If this is intentional, set userdb_warning_disable=yes)"

I have googled little bit. According to this article
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home
I think the problem is:
mail_location = maildir:/home/vmail/%u and plugin { home = /home/vmail/%u }
is the same directory.
Is it right?
Is the solution to set mail_location = maildir:/home/vmail/mail/%u ?

Error: User bob@aaa.bbb doesn't have home dir set, disabling duplicate database

get/see them via my mail client
I do, however, get the following error
--------------------
imap(bob at aaa.bbb): Error: User bob at aaa.bbb doesn't have home dir set,

After looking at https://wiki2.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home I tried the
following
--------------------------------
mail_home = /home/vmail/mailboxes/%d/%n
mail_location = maildir:~/mail
------------------------------
Problem with this is that I now can't see any of my emails in the client.
Appreciate any help on how to fix this.
Thanks

Home directories
I've noticed that a lot of people are using e.g.:
mail_location = maildir:/var/vmail/%d/%n
Then either they don't have home directory set, or their home directory
is the same as the maildir. http://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home
explains all the problems of not separate home and mail directories.
Also whenever I try to suggest using a separate home and mail directory,
the answer is way too often: "But I'm using virtual users. (They don't
have home directories.)"
So I started wondering. Maybe simpl...

Courier migration to dovecot
Hi,
I'm almost ready to migrate Courier to Dovecot 2.2.31 but I have one
question about home and mail directory.
It's good idea to have same directory form home and mail ?
Which scenerio will be better and why ?
For example:
A)
Home: /home/doamin/user1
Mail: /home/doamin/user1
B)
Home: /home/doamin/user1/home
Mail: /home/doamin/user1
C)
Home: /home/doamin/user1/

home folder for virtual users with autoexpunge setting
Hi all,
I have enabled today the autoexpunge setting for Trash folders, and I am getting the following error when Dovecot starts:
imap(<USER>): Error: autoexpunge: Couldn't create dovecot.autoexpunge.lock lock: User has no home directory
I understand this is correct: as <USER> is a virtual user, it does not have home folder. Is there any way I can set the autoexpunge plugin

Shared Mailboxes with VirtualUsers and mail_location retrieved from ldap
Hello,
I spend a couple of days configurating a new installation of dovecot 2.0.14 with virtual accounts and NFS storage for maildir home/mail directories.
At this point I need shared mailboxes but since user mail/home locations are ldap attributes, how is it supposed I must configure this for shared mailboxes?
for the users' mail/home directories I set this line:

sieve folders in maildir with imap: not a directory not fixed with maildir_stat_dirs = yes
As my logs fill up with "imap(user at domain.com): Error: stat(/mail/doman.com/user//.dovecot.sieve/tmp) failed: Not a directory" errors, I followed the advice at https://wiki2.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home and https://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2016-June/104403.html and set in /usr/local/etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf

What best decision to make for flatfiles or SQL when I use Dovecot2 + Postfix together?
Hello,
I'm moving my mail server from Exchange to an opensource one.
After a bunch of reading, I decided on building a Dovecot2 + Postfix
server in a VirtualUsers-only + Multiple-domains configuration.
Since my messages will be stored by Dovecot, and the documentation is
really good, I figured that it's smartest to configure Dovecot, then
make Postfix 'fit' to it, sharing the data files that way.
I read through lots of the Dovecot wiki for v2....

setting up home directories
Hello,
I have not been using the home directory but I read in MailLocation.txt that
I probably should. Does dovecot create each directory? What does it put in
there? My server uses mbox format. My users all look like this:
[root at sendmail log]# finger chayes
Login: chayes Name: 50387.00
Directory: /home/chayes Shell: /sbin/nologin
Never logged in.

The directory layouts for home and mail directories could look like one of

mail='/var/vmail/domain/user/mail/'
Who should be the owner of these directories,...
