RHEL 5.2 i386 image - Xen kernel doesn''t recognize the total amount of system memory
Hello, We have installed RHEL 5.2 Server ( i386 image ) on a machine with 64GB of RAM. When booting the default PAE kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5PAE ) that is shipped with RHEL 5.2 installation the OS detects 64GB of RAM. But when booting the Xen kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5xen ) the OS detects only 14GB of the total amount of available RAM. Did anyone encounter this problem before ? Is it a normal

RHEL 5.2 Xen Kernel doesn''t detect all amount of physical memory
Hello All, Does anyone know what is the current status of RHEL 5.2 x86_64 with respect to the maximum amount of RAM detected by the Xen 64 bit kernel (the one that shipped with Red Hat distribution ) In the following link https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/en-US/RHEL510/Virtualization_Guide/ch-virt-hw-support.html it states that 32GB of RAM is the maximum amount of physical memory the Xen kernel can detect. Is it still the updated status ? Is there a work around or any other way to overcome this limit ? Any info would be appreciated Thanks, Ido __________________________________...

Attaching storage to a virtual machine
...t for storage of the virtual machines themselves? Once I'd added my LVM volume group to virsh I could see no way of then assigning one volume of that to be offered as a logical volume to one particular virtual machine. I've also seen this: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/13/html/Virtualization_Guide/sect-Virtualization-Virtualized_block_devices-Adding_storage_devices_to_guests.html#proc-Virtualization-Adding_storage_devices_to_guests-Adding_physical_block_devices_to_virtualized_guests Looks like I could use that to assign one of the LVM volumes in my LVM volume group to the VM. If anyone cou...

PCI passthrough error
.../pts/1 assigned_dev_pci_read: pread failed, ret = 0 errno = 2 It's produced after I've detached the PCI device from the base OS and have tried to start up the guest domain. To get to this point, I mostly followed these instructions: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/13/html/Virtualization_Guide/chap-Virtualization-PCI_passthrough.html#sect-Virtualization-PCI_passthrough-AI_device_to_a_host The distro I'm using is Debian squeeze, which by default comes with libvirt 0.8.3 and qemu-kvm 0.12.5, although to avoid a different PCI passthrough error, I used Debian backports for squeeze t...

using shared storage with libvirt/KVM?
...sure that the stack would be visable/available to the second system using that iSCSI device. (I'm pretty new to using iSCSI as well.) Redhat provides pretty good documentation on doing shared storage/live migration for NFS: http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5.4/html/Virtualization_Guide/chap-Virtualization-KVM_live_migration.html But unfortunately the section on Shared Storage with iSCSI is a bit lacking: "9.1. Using iSCSI for storing guests This section covers using iSCSI-based devices to store virtualized guests." and thats it. For maybe 6-10 guests, should I simply...

Endless reboot of Solaris 10 under KVM
...is, I tried to virtualize Solaris 10 (update 7) in KVM. It installed fine but afterward it keep rebooting: reboot -> GRUB -> reboot -> GRUB etc. I know that Solaris is not officially supported by CentOS/KVM in CentOS 5.4: http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5.4/html/Virtualization_Guide/chap-Virtualization-KVM_Restrictions_and_support.html And the issue seems to be well known: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/solaris-10-guest-endless-reboot-under-kvmqemu-602987/ I got Solaris to work virtualized in VirtualBox 3.0.x (in Fedora) so I have a workaround. So,...

Is kvm-clock dependant on hardware of Physical Server?
I've got a three Centos 5.5 KVM severs, but only one of them is presenting guests with the kvm-clock source. The two servers I'm not seeing kvm-clock on have Athlon x2 64bit processors. The other server with kvm-clock has a Phenom II X6 1090T Processor. I've checked the system configuration and all the boxes have the same set of RPM packages. To confirm that the issue was

Hello, I Installed 5.4 on a test system to use KVM, but i didn't find the "virtio-win" package with the Windows drivers. -> http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5.4/html/Virtualization_Guide/chap-Virtualization-KVM_Para_virtualized_Drivers.html Is this a CentOS or Upstream Problem? problem with bridged network for a kvm guest
I'm having trouble with the bridged network setup. I'm new to kvm, but I got a window xp sp2 guest set up without trouble a few days ago. I followed the instructions in the RH virtualization guide, and all was fine until I had to reboot the host machine a few days later. Then, I lost networking altogether on the host machine. I lost track of all the things I tried, but finally got

Redhat 7.3 as CentOS 5 domU
Hello, What is the simpliest way to run Redhat 7.3 server as CentOS 5 domU? I see that Xen emulates Intel PIIX ATA controller for HVM domUs but latest kernel of Redhat 7.3 (2.4.20-20.7smp) has no ata_piix kernel module yet. Is it possible to download it somewhere or there is another way? :) And I'd like to avoid reinstalling them with the new OS. Preferably they'd just die their

VirtIO with CentOS 5.4
Hi, all, I'm attempting to run a Windows 2003 (32-bit) VM under CentOS 5.4, generally following: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM I've seen nice performance benefits with the VirtIO driver under Fedora, so I'd like to get that running with CentOS as well. I have the September drivers build .iso. According to: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Virtio I need a KVM version 60

CentOS 5.4 x86_64 only detects 32GB RAM while Fedora x86_64 correctly lists 128GB
Hi, We have a new 24-core Dell PowerEdge R905 server with 128GB's RAM. The 64 bits version of Fedora 12 lists the correct amount of 128GB, CentOS only finds 32GB (and so does Scientific Linux). I would much prefer to use CentOS (most of the software we use is specifically designed for CentOS). Does anyone know what is causing this/how to fix it? Many Thanks, Diederick -------------- next

Problems installing guest domains
Hi, I am trying out Xen for the first time and I am having a few problems with getting it working. The computer is a quad core Intel Xeon with VT enabled, 8gb of RAM and 2 x 15,000rpm SAS drives in RAID1. I have installed CentOS 5 64bit and installed Xen 3.3.0 via yum. I have successfully booted in to dom0. Here is my grub.conf on dom0: > # grub.conf generated by anaconda > # > #
