Confused setting up a "Virtual Server Hosting" config
...ublic IP.  I installed KVM on it and a guest. (both Ubuntu 18.04 LTS server edition).  I am struggling to get the networking right. Essentially I want the "Virtual Server Hosting" config mentioned here: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/6/html-single/virtualization_administration_guide/index#sub-sect-routed-mode <https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/6/html-single/virtualization_administration_guide/index#sect-attch-nic-physdev> I have not had any luck setting that up.  It is listed in the "Routed" section but the graphic says...

32 bit support
Hi good people, I've got a bit of a weird issue. I'm using QEMU emulator version 2.11.1(Debian 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.19) And after some considerable time of not using it for 32bit installations I now find that it can no longer install some older 32 bit installations (e.g. https://phillw.net/isos/lubuntu/natty/ ) The CPU goes to 100% and then after a while it just stops (I'm using

redirecting guest serial to file on the host
Greetings, I have a vm to which I can access using virsh console vm1/ I'd like in addition to be able to dump the serial of the vm in to a file on the host. I've found this https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/6/html/virtualization_administration_guide/sub-section-libvirt-dom-xml-devices-host-interface but it seems that the first second example which might be suited to what I need doesn't work as I get an empty file: here are my serial config for the vm: <serial type='pty'> <source path='/dev/pts/2'/>...

Re: Need help with [virt net-create]
Thanks Daniel. Why was I trying to do something like this ? Two reasons 1. I was referring to ( Figure 18.4. Virtual network switch running dnsmasq) https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html-single/Virtualization_Administration_Guide/index.html#sect-network-protocols that appears to be two virtual nics sharing the same IP range .. !!! 2. was playing around "Network teaming" in a VM. But this doesnt seem to work. Please dont beat me around the use cases for this :) Do we have support for "Network teaming...

Re: Oracle RAC in libvirt+KVM environment
Hi all, I found a article about Hyper-V virtual Fiber Channel, I think this will make Failover Cluster work if KVM has the same feature. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831413.aspx Hyper-V uses NPIV for virtual Fiber Channel, I have read some article about KVM NPIV, but how can I config it with libvirt? Any body can show me some example? On Wed, Aug 14, 2013 at 2:33 PM, Timon Wang

Mapping physical interface to a container
In the "other" LXC project (linuxcontainers.org), you can map a host's physical ethernet interface to a container, e.g. lxc.network.type = phys lxc.network.flags = up lxc.network.link = eth1 lxc.network.name = eth1 Is there an equivalent option for doing this with libvirt lxc? Peter

picking a NUMA cell for pinning using virsh freecell
Hi I'd want to pin the vcpu of a guest to a pcpu. the docs clearly say https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Virtualization_Administration_Guide/ch09s04.html "Locking a guest to a particular NUMA node offers no benefit if that node does not have sufficient free memory for that guest. libvirt stores information on the free memory available on each node. Use the virsh freecell --all command to display the free memory on all NUMA no...

Hmm, assuming we're both looking at the same diagram, I think your interpretation is wrong. Figure 18.4 (under section 18.3.1) is showing one virtual network (192.168.122.0/24...

Virtualization Networking
Hello, I'm a little confused on which networking option I need to choose when setting up a VM. I set up two VMs this past weekend both with NAT. Both able to were access the internet. The first one, I created in my / file system but didn't really have the space so I deleted it. The second one, I created in /home/kvm, but deleted it as well when I couldn't access it FROM the

For whatever reason, the default NAT setup no longer works. I got some kind of bridge network (mactap) setup that has access to the outside but I still can't connect locally.

mounting lvm2
CentOS 7 for everything I am probably never using lvm again. I have never not once actually benefited from its capabilities but this is probably the third or fourth time it has gotten in my way. Issue is that I use the tools so rarely that I can't recall what needs to be done to properly mount the drives on another system and finding that info on the web is becoming more difficult as the
