Vintage Attrition Curves
...- New to the list, so hopefully I don't mess this up too much ... I am hoping maybe some of you can help me. I have a problem I'm trying to solve regarding customer accounts, attrition and forecasting. Basically, here is what I want to do (not sure of the best way): 1. Track accounts by vintage (i.e., the month of the date of sale). 2. Forecast total accounts at a given time utilizing 1. and attrition rates. So, for example, I have a vector of accounts: a <- c(346, 742, 447); 346 represents accounts sold this month (i.e., 0 months on book), 742 represents accounts sold last month (1...

CentOS-7-x86_64-dvd-2009.iso is too big for DVD blanks
...ys DVD-R capacity: 4,707,319,808 bytes (max) I have tried burning this same iso image on two different machines: a CentOS 7.9 server and a Fedora 33 laptop. Same failure on both. We need to ask the developers to make a re-spin that's about 5MB smaller. And before someone suggests it, the 2010-vintage server I'm trying to install CentOS on does not support booting from a thumb drive, so that option is not available. Thanks, --Doc Savage ? ? "dumb" SATA controller recommendation
Just wondering if any 4.2 users out there have a favourite "dumb" PCI controller to add a couple of SATA ports to a motherboard that doesn't include SATA support. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just 2 SATA ports that a recent vintage kernel will recognize without a lot of configuration gymnastics. The intended use is for relatively light weight internet browser workstations for younger students. Suggestions would be very much appreciated. Cheers,

Samba4 upgrade compatability
I have an existing install of Samba4 ( I think beta6 vintage ), which uses ntvfs and bind9. It's only providing AD and Group Policy. I have a seperate file server running 3.6.x. I want to add a server to the domain running the most recent RC. I know they are using internal by default and s3fs for the file shares on sysvol. Can s3fs coexist with nt...

TDM400 in aging Dell Optiplex
I've got an old Dell Optiplex (Pentium-II, 1998 Vintage) which is successfully running an X100P card. I'm hoping to upgrade to a TDM400. Has anybody tried running these cards in old Optiplex machines? I'm not particularly worried about horsepower - more about the motherboard having a PCI bus that's able to power up the card... -Ronan

Rsyncing without RSH or SSH ?
...- a 1.44MB FD So, to be able to create the image of the 2GB SCSI drive that is in the 486, I need to boot the 486 on one or more floppy disks and dd the /dev/sda drive over SSH to a file on my big Fedora 25 x86_64 workstation. I now have Basic Linux booting from floppies but it is still 2005 vintage and uses SSH1 and I haven't been able to get the old Ciphers, MACs and KexAlgorithms working with my Fedora 25 x86_64 server - so I still can't ssh or rsync to it from the 486. BL does not have any rshd . . Any possibility of a version of rsync that doesn't need RSH or SSH? Even...

MS Office with WINE
...I am a studying possibility of using wine in professional environment. I installed codeweavers wine recently with success. But I fear the answer is not an evident YES... With notepad, I have not acheived any printing yet. First goal would be running MS Office for win 98, especially Excel (another vintage for better emulation if necessary). What is your opinion ? More precisely, what problems are there in MS Office apps emulation ? Is there any kind of technical synthesis available on the subject ? Apart from that, is there any idea of the predictible date for a professional usable release ? T...

Using CentOS Live CD to recover trashed RHEL system
...estore from a level 0 dump taken from a lvm snapshot just before things broke. I'm pretty confident I have all of the above under control. The part I'm not certain about is the grub voodoo to get the system to boot to the lvm with the restored root file system. I'm not certain of the vintage of the restored root file system it was built from an old RHEL5 installation cd and last updated a year or so ago. I have a CentOS 5.5 live cd .iso image staged for the onsite person to burn. Are there differences in the boot process for CentOS/RHEL 5.x versions that I have to worry about. Would...

minimum kernel version for btrfsprogs.0.20?
Creating a btrfs file system using btrfs-progs-0.20.rc1.20130308git704a08c-1.fc19, and either kernel 3.6.10-4.fc18 or 3.9.0-0.rc3.git0.3.fc19, makes a file system that cannot be mounted by kernel 3.6.10-4.fc18. It can be mounted by kernel 3.8.4. I haven''t tested any other 3.8, or any 3.7 kernels. Is this expected? dmesg reports: [ 300.014764] btrfs: disk space caching is enabled [

Blasphemous? any support for a REPO of current edition BIND, et al (e.g., BZ561299)?
...What is RH's be-all end-all justification for staying with an ancient code base for such important programs as BIND et al? A similar problem (to BZ561299) was first reported five (5) years ago on the isc.org mailing list. Is there any support among the CentOS community for a REPO of current vintage for such important functions as BIND et al? That question is based on the presumption that time is taking us to a more complete and correct implementation of the basic functions like DNS. IOW, is CentOS philosophy of tracking RH so nailed-to-the-wall that it is blasphemy to propose a REPO of curr...

xyplot and abline
Dear All, I wonderif there is a simple way to draw a regression line in the xyplot: more specifically, let: age <- c(20:30, 31:40 ) age.cut <- cut(age, breaks = 2 ) y<- rnorm(20) x <- rnorm(20,4,1) xyplot(y ~ x| age.cut, xlab="x", ylab="y") How to draw (in the plot given by xyplot) the two regression lines (y ~ x) corresponding to the two category

1.8.4 and write-through cache
Afternoon I upgraded our oss''s from 1.8.3 to 1.8.4 on Saturday (due to https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22755) and suffered a great deal of pain. We have 30 oss''s of multiple vintages. The basic difference between them is * md on first 20 nodes * 3ware 9650SE ML12 on last 10 nodes After the upgrade to 1.8.4 we were seeing terrible throughput on the nodes with 3ware cards (and only the nodes with 3ware cards). This was typified by see the block device being 100% utilised...

sorting question
I've asked about custom sorting before and it appears that -- in terms of a user-defined order -- it can only be done either by defining a custom class or using various tricks with "order" Just wondering if anyone has a clever way to order "vintages" of the form 2002, 2003H1, 2003H2, 2004, 2005Q1, 2005Q2, etc some have H1 or H2, some have Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4, some are just plain years. They should be sorted in the obvious order. I can think of doing something with s'trsplit' and 'order' but anyone have anything better? (I stil...
