datetime_select, is creating an instance of the Time class
Hello It seems that datetime_select, is creating an instance of the Time class. Why would that be? I found this while building a site where people can create vigils (prayer vigils, peace vigils, etc). When I added a validation method that compared start_date to created_at, it generated the error: ArgumentError (comparison of Time with DateTime failed): I was able to put a breakpoint in the

interactive file choosing in Linux?
I am used to using the [R] function choose.files() for interactive file selection in MS-Windows. What is the comparable function in Linux? I expected the function file.choose() to display similar behavior, i.e., a graphical interface diplaying a file listing, but all I seem to get is a "text input prompt". This does not seem correct. > file.choose() Enter file

Getting vastly different results when running GLMs
Dear R gurus I am analysing data from a study of behaviour and shade utilization of chimpanzees. I am using GLMs in R (version 2.13.0) to test whether shade/sun utilization is predicted by behaviour observed. I am thus interested in whether an interaction of behaviour (as a predictor) and presence in the sun/shade (also predictor) predicts the counts I have for the respective categories. I have

Time conversion from Win32 64bit FILETIME?
Windows-32 has a time structure called FILETIME, a 64-bit value representing the number of 100-nanosecond intervals since January 1, 1601 (UTC). That is not a typo, the year is 1601. Does anyone have a clue(or algorhithm)for how this is converted to something a little more POSIX-like ? Thank you, Derek -- Derek N. Eder Gothenburg University VINKLA - Vigilance and Neurocognition

data frame subset patch, take 2
Hi Robert, Here is the second iteration of data frame subset patch. It now passes make check on both 2.4.0 and 2.5.0 (svn as of a few days ago). Same speedup as before. Changes: * Introduced two new functions .subassign2 and .subassign that are complimentary to .subset2 and .subset. * Changed x[[j]]<- assignment to x<-.subassign2(x, j, ..) to fix the problem with the previous patch.

wilcox_test function in coin package
Dear All, I have two simple data samples (no groups or factors, etc.) and would just like to compute the two-sample Wilcoxon Rank Sum test using the wilcox_test function contained in the coin package, which is reportedly better than the regular wilcox.test function because it performs some adjustment for ties. Would anyone know how to craft a script to perform this task? Much appreciated. Janh

Fwd: Re: Bus Error with OpenSSH 3.7.1p2 on Solaris 8, SPARC 64-bit
The story of this problem, AFAIK, is that Solaris 8 YASSP and JASS and vigilant/paranoid sysadmins have been known to set a restricitve umask in /etc/default/login. OpenSSH compatibility for Solaris 8 has been spotty at times for sparcv9 targets. This time, when a sparcv9 binary tries to sscanf(3C) the numeric umask as a long octal and put it in a mode_t, SIGBUS happens. What...

Rspec on Merb Plugin - Initial thoughts?
...make the Test::Unit library a plugin. One flaw with Rails, that I hope does not get repeated in Merb, is the tight coupling with Test;:Unit (same with tight coupling with Rspec). Of course Rspec did not exist when Rails was first developed, so this should not be much of a problem as long as we are vigilant. :) Brian -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Tools/mechanisms for the management of access permissions in big filebased datasets
Hello, we are currently managing access permissions through classical user-group-others permissions on a multi-petabyte directory tree with partially very deep and broad directories. Projects are represented by directory trees and mapped through GIDs. Lately we had lots of "singular" permission request (one single user needs access to a single dataset but should not be able to

running R command in the background
Is there a way to call an R function to work in the background within the same R session? What I have in mind is the equivalent of adding '&' at the end of a UNIX command, so that R can process an intensive command while I execute other R commands. I want to do this in the same R session, rather than with multiple calls to R, so that all my modified objects will stay in the same

making 4.8-RELEASE-p7
Hello, freebsd-security. I'm trying to build 4.8-RELEASE-p7 to distribute it trought my clients. What am I doing: #cd /usr/share/examples/cvsup #cvsup standard-supfile (after I've done necessary changes) #cd /usr/src #make buildworld Thus, I have /usr/obj "populated with the output of ``make buildworld''" as it described in man 7 release. Then, I have read
