How vifX.Y and eth talk on dom0 with NAT configuration?
Hi, in the official XenNetworking (
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenNetworking ) i didn''t find reported
how the NAT configuration works with xen.
Does anybody know how the vifX.Y (10.X.X.128), gateway of any domU ethX
(10.X.X.1) talk with the real ethX of the dom0?
Thanks
Enrico

XEN 3.0.1: domUs become zombies after shutdown with "unregister_netdevice: waiting for vifX.0 to become free. Usage count = n"
...oblem with xen 3.0.1 compiled from sources on
Debian Sarge, kernel 2.6.12.6 which can be easily reproduced at least on
my installation:
after I log in to domU console or via ssh and run "shutdown" I get
deadlocked network interface with error message:
unregister_netdevice: waiting for vifX.0 to become free. Usage count = n
After this happen I can''t even reboot my dom0 via ssh because reboot
process hangs (waits until interface is released but it never happens).
I googled about this error and found some references to bridged

Query about the vifX.Y interfaces
Hi all
Really silly question here: do the vif interfaces require IP addresses?
I''m totally stuck with getting IP traffic to my guest domain, layer 2
traffic (ie ARP queries/responces, broadcasts, etc) is all OK. Another
question, what is peth0 used for?
Thanks again

Bug#702428: HVM networking tap/vif bug (Debian bug 702428)
...- if I attach a vif, the domU will not start
Looking at /var/log/daemon.log, I notice:
xcp-fe: qemu-dm-10[9169]: can't add tap10.0 to bridge xapi1: Operation
not supported
while the output from dmesg suggests that the interface vif10.0 was
created. It appears there is confusion between the vifX.Y and tapX.Y
naming schemes.
Can anybody comment on this? Is this hardcoded into some config that I
should inspect? Is it hard coded in the qemu-dm scripts? It would be
very desirable to fix this before the wheezy release so that people
don't have a bad impression of XCP with HVM.

RHEL5 & Xen 3.2.1; Not creating tap0 in dom0 for domU''s
...ap0 for bridging isn''t being created. This results in the
CentOS 5.2 domU''s bridged eth0 only being able to ping the RHEL5 dom0''s
IP address... but nothing else on the same physical NIC/subnet.
Everything else is properly set in my dom0 in the sense that eth0,
peth0 and vifX.0 are all there along with a "brctl show" which shows
vifX.0 and peth0 bridged under eth0, but missing tap0 for the
peth0/eth0.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

domU network packets get lost on the way to dom0
Hi,
I am experiencing a strange network problem. It looks like some packets
get lost on the way from frontend network device in domU to the backend
vifx.x in dom0.
But first my configuration:
- Xen 3.4.0 from the gentoo ebuild and the pvops dom0 kernel from
jeremy/xen.git
- The system has two physical network interfaces called gblan (Gigabit
Ethernet) and felan (Fast Ethernet)
- Two network bridges in dom0: gbbridge with the gblan interface and...

Hello,
While using xen 4.1-testing.hg (r23202) I noticed that the ''vifname''

Bug#1042842: network interface names wrong in domU (>10 interfaces)
...: xen-utils-4.17
Version: 4.17.1+2-gb773c48e36-1
Severity: important
Dear Maintainers,
On one of our domUs we discovered that the network interface names were
wrongly assigned since recreating the domU after an upgrade to bookworm.
If over 10 network interfaces are configured the mapping (dom0) vifX.10
<-> eth10 (domU) does not apply anymore.
Instead the interfaces on dom0 are sorted primarily by the leftmost
digit. so for 11 interfaces we will end up with:
vifX.0 <> eth0
vifX.1 <> eth1
vifX.10 <> eth2
vifX.2 <> eth3
vifX.3 <> eth4

Bug#658305: Prevent silently failing on duplicate vifname
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.1.2-3
Severity: normal
When configurating a duplicate custom vifname for interfaces in the Xen
dom0 that are added to a bridge (which is obviously a configuration
error), the hotplug scripts fail silently to rename the new vifX.0 to
the custom vifname, if it's already existing.
The result of this, is that the domU will start normally, but no network
traffic between domU and the dom0 bridge is possible, because the vifX.0
never gets added to the bridge.
Worse... when doing xm shutdown on the newly created domU, while...

Xen 4.1.2 PVHVM guest with Linux 3.1.0 network problem, empty MAC address (all zeroes)
Hello,
While testing Fedora 16 Xen PVHVM guests I noticed the following problem:
When starting F16 PVHVM guest I can see the vifX.0 and tapX.0 interfaces appear on dom0,
but after the guest kernel (Linux 3.1.0) starts and loads PVHVM drivers the
vif/tap interfaces disappear from dom0..
so the bridge in dom0 doesn''t have any vifs/taps connected to it anymore.
Has anyone seen that behaviour?
I bet that''s...

accompanies the xen-tools (I have emerged the xen-tools-3.4.2-r1.ebuild ebuild

and also a corresponding vifx.x interface. I am not using the standard xenbr0
configuration that everybody else is talking about and using. My bridge looks

bridge + arp
Hi,
this is propably bridge related and not really a xen problem, but it
might help someone:
Some of our domUs are not able to arp. Arp -n show (incomplete), and
doing a tcpdump shows, that on the dom0''s eth0 the arp request goes out,
the response comes in, but on the vifX.0 interface the arp response is
gone.

Patches to enable MTUs >1500 in el5.6 ready for testing.
Hi all,
With help from others, I''ve been able to get Olaf''s patch for enabling
MTUs >1500 for vifX.y and tapZ devices working. I''ve been able to boot
dom0, launch domU and live-migrate without having the bridge''s MTU
degrade at any time.
Would the Xen RPM maintainers (and others) mind taking a look at the
following patches?

K/Ubuntu 11.04 and XEN 4.1 - Possible?
Ok running Kubuntu 11.04, is it possible to get XEN 4.1 installed to virtual
a laptop running Kubuntu ?
I seriously dont want to use Vbox or KVM, and need to run other OS for
development, so XEN virtualization
on a 8 core laptop with 16 gig memory seem the best bet for mobile
development
