Is binary firmware still necessary for GTX660 card (NVE0 family) in order to use DRM and/or VDPAU video acceleration?
Hello, I run the Gentoo Linux distribution and use a self-compiled Linux 3.10.17 kernel. According to [1] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/InstallDRM/ [2] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/ I need the original firmware from the binary driver in order to sucessully use DRM and to use VDPAU video acceleration. I used the python script from [2] and I had a look at the ebuild from [3] https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480832 to extract the firmware and to place it at /lib/firmwa...

...ou correctly, there are kernel version (newer than some unknown point in time) that already include the firmware? If this is the case, someone who knows the exact kernel version should mention that point on [1] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/InstallDRM/ [2] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/ [3] https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480832 and update the information. Video Hardware Decoding: Jittery Rectangles on Nvidia GT218 NVA8 VP4.
Hi, I'm having trouble with hardware decoding of video with mpv(1) having switched from Nvidia's proprietary driver to nouveau due to Arch Linux removing its nvidia-340xx package. The machine is an Acer Revo. $ lspci -nn | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [ION] [10de:0a64] (rev a2) I think this is codename NVA8 with the

8K HEVC decoding with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
...p to 8192*8192 resolution video decoding acceleration with HEVC codec. From Nouveau feature matrix ( https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix/), we know the progress of video decoding acceleration on NV130 family ( https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames/#NV130) is TODO. In Nouveau VideoAcceleration page ( https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/), we can see that each element in VP6+ row is TODO as well. I can imagine there is a long way to go to fulfill my requirements. But I know a driver for my NVIDIA card is a must for the hardware decoder to work. Can somebody shed some l...

...;> > > I didn't need firmware before but it looks like I do now. > I will look into that. Well, you don't need it to play back video. You only need it for GPU-accelerated video decoding (which is what you get when using va-api or vdpau). See https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/ for the details. -ilia

I have, over time, collected some sample videos where this happens in the first few frames. The plan was to do mmt traces of the blob driver, and figure out what it was doing differently. If this is something you're interested in, I'd be happy to provide some guidance. Howe...

Scripted video decoding firmware extraction
Hello, I've recently made available a script that extracts video decoding firmware from the blob without having to do mmiotrace/valgrind-mmt traces. You can find out more about it on the http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/ wiki page, along with the current support status for the various decoding engines. Happy video decoding! -ilia
