TextMate language weirdness
I''m having trouble with TextMate and assigning the RSpec language to *_spec.rb files within rails projects. Here is what is happening: I''m in a file that has the language "Ruby on Rails" selected. I do a ctrl-shift-down to switch to the corresponding _spec.rb file. The _spec.rb file has the language "Ruby on Rails" selected. I change the language to

FastCGI in Shared Hosting - What To Do?
Hello Campers! I am working on Site5, trying to get a working Camping application running. Unfortunately, my sole option in terms of deployment is FastCGI. I have no access to sudo so I cannot create ScriptAliases. I''ve taken the Camping Short Short Example and uploaded it, along with a dispatch.fcgi and an .htaccess file. My question is - given the state of Camping development right

Major RAC slowdown
Hello again. Our production cluster has begun experiencing some vicious slowdowns that may (or may not) be related to the filesystems. When the problem occurs, the load average on the servers jumps up to 30 or higher. Usually one node will climb while the other drops, then they will switch places a few minutes later. At one point, we had one node's load average up over 300. Our site

ruby-shadow problems for 0.22.4 on Debian/Ubuntu AMD64
I thought I''d put this out there for anyone to save anyone who''s running 0.22.4 on AMD64 hosts a whole world of hurt. Basically, the libshadow-ruby1.8 package that Puppet (as of 0.22.4) relies on is broken for AMD64 in both Debian (Sarge+) and Ubuntu (all releases). The problem is basically just some non-portable code. I''ve reported the bug into Debian with a patch, so

.Call setAttrib(ans,R_DimSymbol,dim); Crashes.
Hi! I want to return a matrix. The code does the R interfacing. This version does it fine. SEXP ans,dim; PROTECT(ans = NEW_NUMERIC(count*2)); memcpy(NUMERIC_POINTER(ans),result,count*sizeof(double)); memcpy(&(NUMERIC_POINTER(ans)[count]),occur,count*sizeof(double)); /** PROTECT(dim=NEW_INTEGER(2)); INTEGER_POINTER(dim)[0]=2; INTEGER_POINTER(dim)[1]=count;

Can one write a procedure in R like for instance in Maple ?
Dear R-wizards! I have been learning on my own how to use this fantastic program.. but I agree with some people that even with the manuals, the faq and so on.. when you are sitting fully alone.. progress can be ... slow... very slow indeed.. In fact sometimes, looking at the "solutions" provided by some of you- I am just flabbergasted to the point that I couldn't figure out how to

NUT messes up UPS after mains power is restored
Hi Charles, Ok. I'm testing NUT now with only pfsense running as the master and no slaves. I'm noticing a very strange behavior that totally doesn't make sense to me. So here's what I did (in chronological order): 1. Set override.battery.charge.warning to 55 and override.battery.charge.low to 50. 2. I started with a full charge battery and unplugged the UPS from the mains.

Integrating samba with existing AD
Hi everyone, I am currently trying to set-up a samba server in my network in order to replace the existing windows samba server. It's been now two weeks that I am struggling with a vicious problem, and I cannot see any issue right now. Before I loose all my hairs, I am sharing with you this problem : hopefully, someone will have a tip for me. The software involved : Server Linux

Proper way of updating winetools?
After updating from, say winetools-2.10-jo to 2.11-jo (by rpm), I can't use the wt startup scripts like ie6, wmplayer etc. any longer, and I get an error message similar to "winetools hasn't been configured for this user. Run the base setup ..." But doing so would erase my ~/.wine directory and thus destroy my old setup including all my program installations, which of course

Acer laptops (and the snd_hda_intel module
Just a note for anyone doing a page on Acer laptops. I had put in my own page, and notice that someone had put in theirs as well, that though the module loads, sound doesn't work. It turns out that one can get sound working by downloading the latest alsa drivers. I've added a note to my page on the 4720z. The issue seems to be that CentOS uses an older version of alsa. (I also, of

SIP registration DoS but no logs in messages
Dear mailing list, I've a Asterisk 1.4.21.2~dfsg-3+lenny1 package installed on my debian and I've a strange behavior. After some days running normally, my asterisk is under heavy attack, however, there is nothing logged in the console (logging from debug -> error) or file (level from notice ->error) I can see that there is also a peak on the network traffic. My first guess is that

Client certificates
While browsing the sources of the nss-ssl-port sources I noticed that client certificates were added. What is the reason behind this? As far as I can see, using a server certificate and validating it in the upsmon client should provide us with a secure channel. Authorizations for the server will then be handled by the settings in upsd.users by logging into the server with user and

CND (CID) woe on a TDM400P
G'day list, It appears I got ahead of myself in believing I'd solved my CND (caller id) problem. My callerid.c change got it working on one of the handsets I have, but not the other. (Recap: The AU CND standard has an increased delay between the end of the ring signal and the start of the CND FSK data -- it's 500ms in US GR-30-CORE, and around 700ms in AU DC.002/TS030). I've

Quicktime components and FLAC
Hi all, OK, so I just bought myself a nice shiny new powerbook. Nice machine. Very nice machine :-) But, iTunes does not understand FLAC. My Digitised music collection (entirely my own, ripped from my cd's, blah, blah, blah) is now mostly in FLAC (as I slowly go through and convert it will all be in FLAC :-) So, I have a problem. Or, if you want to look at it another way, I have an itch. An

Latest R-devel build failing on OS X
Readline <= 6.2 shouldn't require the SIGWINCH patch, so if older versions have trouble finding rl_resize_terminal then you could wrap a macro around that part. The isearch C-c bug has existed forever, according to Chet Ramey. Yes, I had to retrain myself to use C-g to exit isearch but it's confusing. It would be nice to fix this C-c bug on older versions too, but my solution used some

MoH - conversion command
Hi, I've been trying to get MoH files to sound decent. I've got a hold of Royalty-free Classical music (a safe choice for most of my customers) and I`ve been trying to convert them to the normal telephony/Asterisk format using sox. Unfortunately, it sounds really bad. I don't expect concert hall quality of course, 8000KHz being what it is, but is there a better way to convert
