mounting lvm2
CentOS 7 for everything I am probably never using lvm again. I have never not once actually benefited from its capabilities but this is probably the third or fourth time it has gotten in my way. Issue is that I use the tools so rarely that I can't recall what needs to be done to properly mount the drives on another system and finding that info on the web is becoming more difficult as the

e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block
I posted this to the Fedora-list, but thought I might get some additional information here as well. I have a HD that refuses to mount with a 'bad magic number in super-block'. I'm running FedoraCore 6 x86_64. [root at moe ~]# fdisk -l /dev/hdc Disk /dev/hdc: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

interesting kvm lvm collision issue
...ock devices for virtual systems. In VolGroup01, I make two lv's for one system: lv.sys1, and lv.sys1-data. I then build a new virtual machine called sys1, using lv.sys1 for the root filesystem, and lv.sys1-data for an independent data partition. Everything works great after installation, and vgdisplay on both systems looks great. If I then run vgscan, however, on the host system, it picks up the VolGroup01 I created _within_ the virtual machine, so I now have 2 VolGroup01's with different UUIDs showing up on dom0. Now I can see how vgscan would mistakenly see the VolGroup01 of sys1 on the...

Un Installing a hard drive in a Centos 5.1 box
Hi Guys, I'm fairly new to Linux and I'm trying to un install a hard drive from my Centos 5.1 box running KDE. When I built the PC, I installed two 500 gig maxtors in the tower, then I installed Centos. Now I've decided that I want to remove the slave drive and use it as an external backup drive - I am mounting it into one of those external drive cases with a built in fan. When I

CentOS 6.2 + areca raid + xfs problems
...There is a 16 disk = ~11 TB data volume running on an Areca ARC-1280 raid card with LVM + xfs filesystem on it. The included arcmsr driver module is loaded. At first it seemed ok, but with in a few hours I started getting I/O error message on directory listings, and then a bit later when I did a vgdisplay command there was garbage in that. I then ran the volume check on the RAID card bios, it flagged 3 errors. When I restarted the system, things were ok, but then the problem reappeared. I ran another volume check and no errors were flagged (I should note, the check takes about 9 hours). but upon re...

Strange problem with LVM, device-mapper, and software RAID...
...---- 1 root disk 253, 4 Jul 22 14:13 RavelSystem-swap The weirdness is this: 1) the large swap space is not being activated automatically on boot. It can be manually activated with the swapon command, and as a stopgap measure, I've added a swapon command to rc.local 2) vgscan, vgchange, and vgdisplay are not seeing RavelData2, *even though* the system has no problem mounting the data disk during boot and swapon has no problem activating the largeswap swap area (at least once the system is in full multi-user mode). And (appearently) the device mapper is perfectly happy to do its thing (more or l...

Resize guest filesystem question
...system (/, /var, /data) and I have logical volumes named within the host system by guest and mount point so that I know what each logical volume is assigned to by it's name. 3. I expanded a specific logical volume on the host (/dev/vg/lv_guest1root) that is used by Guest1, and I can see in vgdisplay and lvdisplay that the logical volume was properly expanded. 4. I then issued a resize2fs /dev/vg/lv_guest1root command (on the host) to resize the filesystem to the expanded logical volume. This resulted in a message that it essentially couldn't find a valid filesystem superblock. Wel...

Strange issue with device-mapper lib in CentOS
...itial reconfigurations, turned it off and left it lay around doing nothing. Today its time has come, and I turned it on. While booting I've seen a message "Segmentation fault" just after a line about "Starting up LVM2". That's confused me a bit. Logged it as root, typed vgdisplay, got a normal output and a message "Segmentation fault" after it. lvdisplay performed just the same - normal display of all LVM logical volumes and a "Segmentation fault" at the bottom. Next step was obvious: # rpm -Va Huh, here we are. There's a bunch of RPMs with binary...

VirtIO disk 'leakage' across guests?
We are in the process of migrating several stand-alone server hosts onto a CentOS-6 kvm virtual host. We also use Webmin to administer our hosts. All of the guests, without exception, have been cloned brom a prototype guest using virt-manager. All of the additional VirtIO disks assigned to some of the guests have been added through virt-manager as well. Recently I have encountered a situation
