Hello,
I would like to compile samba-latest on an old Linux system (SuSE 7.2).
Everything seems to run quite well until it comes to the vfs-modules:

vfs_recycle throwing errors when files are deleted by a Mac on a share with vfs_fruit enabled
Hi,
My log files are being flooded with errors like the ones below whenever a
Mac delete files from a Samba share.

vfs_recycle disables permissions inheritance on AD DC shares
Apologies if this is a documented feature and I missed it - I've been
googling and reading through the docs but haven't spotted any mention
anywhere. Is the vfs_recycle feature officially being supported with
Samba in AD mode? I have a few AD DC's with file shares on them - and
have been struggling with file permissions not being inherited on the
file shares. I have finally narrowed it down to the fact that if I
enable the vfs_recycle module on the shares,...

vfs_recycle folder limit management
Hi all,
Running SerNet Samba 4.0.9 on CentOS 6.4 serving as an AD DC and
fileshare for XP clients.
Added recycler per the example at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions to my
smb.conf. Works great.
My concern is that the recycle dir will eventually grow large.
vfs_recycle's docs mention a parameter for limiting individual file
sizes, but what's a best practice to prevent the whole recycle folder
from growing too large? Cronjob to delete old files when the total is
past a certain size? Anyone have a script handy? (I'm hoping I'm not
the only on...

vfs_recycle and permissions
...ACLs) regardless of the recycle:directory_mode and recycle:subdir_mode
settings, whereas the files which are moved to the recycle repository
keep their original permissions.
Ideally, also the directories in the recycle repository would keep the
original permissions.
Is there a way to configure the vfs_recycle module so that also the
directory tree in the recycle repository retains the original
permissions and ACLs?
How do other people deal with permissions in the recycle repository in
combination with NT ACLs?
Best regards
Andreas

vfs_recycle on samba 4.3.9 as DC reset permissions
...ouch = yes
recycle:keeptree = yes
After enabling the module all permissions for this share where reset to
the defaults (everyone can enter).
If I now try to change the permissions for the share or an subfolder the
permissions will reset in the moment I press apply.
So after enabling the vfs_recycle module the permission system (Windows
acl) does not work anymore for the particular share.
Is this a known problem?
Is there maybe an workaround available?

The following man page is the one I read several times when things
started to get hairy and I narrowed things down to issues with vfs
recycle - and where I was looking for some enlightening notes on the
subject:

Something along the lines of:
"vfs objects = recycle
Please note that the config line above will reset the vfs objects
already configured, which can have unintended consequences, specially
when Samba is configured in AD mode. To avoid this, the recycle module
should be added to ex...

vfs_recycle. Behaviour on modifing a file.
We have a samba share that is not used very much and when it is the files
are not be modified very often. The share will hold sensative information
and it is vital we can see what information the file contained for auditing
purposes.
I am not sure of the behaviour of the recycle bin when the contents of an
existing file are modified. I am told that modifing a file actually
deletes the original

vfs_recycle missing deleted file?
Hi,
With smb.conf having full_audit and recycle, today I saw:
Sep 17 10:48:49 kantoor smbd_audit[2317861]:

However, there's no /home/.recycle/hannah/Documents/ or any other hint
of 20240917Workflow.ods in her recycle directory. As there is a copy of

(Fwd) vfs_recycle and create mode 770
I'd like to use the recycle as a per machine recycler using the option
'name = .recycle/%m' (because we just use some usernames
without passwords, and not because of the adminstrators abilties, but for a better
workflow with a lot of different projects and people working on them.)
But if a directory is created the vfs recycle uses the rights 700, and i have found
no way around it
