vfs readahead && windows server 2016/2019?
Quick question...
The docs for vfs readahead mention Windows Vista, but what about modern
Windows versions? Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019?
Thank you,

Slow population of Properties in Windows Explorer
...ed to slow browsing of heavily populated directories (over 10,000 files per directory), but that is not the case here. I have not found much with respect to any kind of performance tuning that can be done to improve the feedback of filesystem metadata through Samba to clients. Is this something the vfs_readahead module can help with? Its man page only mentions Windows Vista, but it isn't clear if the issue it addresses remains in newer versions of Windows Explorer.

vfs objects
Is the ?important" vfs objects parameter documented in a man page anywhere? It appears in the man pages of several vfs modules, but never fully documented that I could find. Apparently it once was from a now dead link https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/smb.conf.5.html#VFSOBJECTS <https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/smb.conf.5.html#VFSOBJECTS> .

Can you do any performance tests on the local
filesystem to see if this is due to XFS xattr
performance ? If you're migrating a lot of...

Performance issue with Vista
Hi,
I tested a little bit Samba with Windows vista and found serious performance issue regarding reading large files from Samba server. Computers that I tested Samba with were all identical computers equipped with 2,8 GHz Pentium D processors, 1 GB memory and 1 Gbit/s LAN. All computers have only external USB hard drives so that it is easier to change from operating system to another.

Question on how to get Samba to use larger pread/write calls.
We are testing Samba 3 (and 4) on Fedora Core 13,
10Gbit connection with a Mac OS 10.6.4 system
as the client. We will be adding some Windows
machines sooner or later with 10Gbit interfaces.
We are seeing 100-150MBytes/sec read or write
performance between the Mac and the FC13 system
over 10Gbit interface but it should be capable of
400-500MBytes/sec. We have a local raid
on the FC13 system
