using veritas dmp with ZFS (but not vxvm)
We have some HDS storage that isn''t supported by mpxio, so we have to use veritas dmp to get multipathing. Whats the recommended way to use DMP storage with ZFS. I want to use DMP but get at the multipathed virtual luns at as low a level as possible to avoid using vxvm as much as possible. I figure theres no point in having overhead from 2 volume manages if we can avoid it....

Backup Solutions based on Linux
I'm having particular issues running Veritas in my Windows environment. The agent just seems to baulk on some servers. I've looked into backup solutions running on Linux before but there doesn't seem to be much. Is anyone familiar with something that has Windows agents and yet managed by Linux? <<JAV>> -------------- nex...

ZFS with Veritas DMP?
Hi, I''m aware that if we talking about DMP on Solaris the preferred way is to use MPxIO, still I have a question if any of you got any experience with ZFS on top of Veritas DMP? Does it work? Is it supported? Any real life experience/tests in this subject? Regards, sendai -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

upgrade from 1.x to 3.0.0.4 : veritas backup exec cannot connect
I figured out a previous issue to allow you to connect veritas BE to a samba system. You basically just defind a c$ share, and it was happy (Veritas BE version 8.5 Rev 3572) Now, I cannot get the user defined share to connect for the life of me anymore. The backup user can connect using windows shares, but within the application, I'm out of luck. It...

Some final notes: Backup Exec & Samba shares
...ered that CA's ARCServe package (formerly made by Cheyenne Software) couldn't care less if a network share is sourced by a Windows or *nix type system running Samba. It browses and backs up either one with ease. Chris already posted the same thing he mailed to me to the list. Essentially, Veritas won't do a thing about it, and it does appear to be a design flaw in their software (considering that ARCserve doesn't have a problem with it). Sad, really. Backup Exec used to be a pretty good product. Sounds like Veritas has turned into the Microsoft of the backup software world, just...

tdb/tdbutil.c:tdb_chainlock_with_timeout_internal
...his error has some link to my problem. Should I upgrade to the latest stable and does it address this error? I will say that ./samba/private is shared between two identical samba servers running smbd simultaneously. By shared, I mean that the ./private directory is on a shared filesystem (via Veritas clustered filesystem). Each server is running its own independent binaries and ./var/locks. But only one server is running nmbd at time. The other one is always ready to start nmbd upon nmbd failure. If secrets.tdb is shared, would this really only be involved with nmbd/smbd during domain me...

Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 & Samba: Take Two!
Hi, gang, There have been numerous postings, scattered across various Internet forums (including this one), about problems encountered using Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 and higher with Samba-sourced shares from *nix servers. In my particular case, I have a Windows NT Server 4.0-based backup system, which is supposed to be able to back up the other Windows systems on the LAN, plus several SPARC boxes running NetBSD 1.6.1 and Samba. I started runn...

Samba 3.0.4 + Veritas Backup Exec
Hi all, Wondering if anyone can help me here? Having just upgraded from Samba 3.0.2a to Samba 3.0.4, I've found that Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 is no longer able to browse my shares. A quick "make revert" and everything is back as it should be. The things I see in the samba log are like this: [2004/05/19 12:46:40, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(619) titanium (192.168.1.39) connect to service Archiv...

Symantec Backup Exec (formerly Veritas) agent
I'm just wondering if anyone else here is using this? The majority of jobs on our CentOS5 server "fail" by "Communications failure" right at the end, apparently on the very last file which, however, is recoverable, as is the whole archive. In more than half these failures, the Linux agent has stopped and, in about half of those, crashes leaving a backtrace. I had similar

Samba and BackupExec
Hi, I've got Samba 2.0.2 and a server NT4 SP3 with Seagate BackupExec 7.0. When I want to backup Samba with Seagate BackupExec, I get a message saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another one saying "A device specific error occured". I've read all the Samba archive about that subject, but I do not find any solution. I don't

group membership + acl
During the last two years our fileserver was a VERITAS Samba-2.0.10-VRTS server. This Veritas version of samba contains a special ACL component for the uid <-> sid and gid <-> sid mapping. It also transparently converts Windows access rights to Unix access rights and vice versa. The recent changes in the Windows mbx driver forced us to mov...

Can samba hide symlinks?
I am using samba to pull a backup of my linux host over the network so I made the following share: [backup] comment = share for veritas path = / valid users = root read only = yes dont descend = proc dev mnt lost+found sys follow symlinks = no hide unreadable = yes The root user is mapped to administrator and the samba host is on the domain, so the windows box logs on and pulls it's backup just fine except for whe...
