Confirmatory factor analysis problems using sem package (works in Amos)
Hello all,
I'm trying to replicate a confirmatory factor analysis done in Amos. The
idea is to compare a one-factor and a two-factor model. I get the following
warning message when I run either model:
"Could not compute QR decomposition of Hessian.
Optimization probably did not converge."
I have no idea what to do here. I believe posters reported the same
problem. It seems

Public Apology to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore
I was misconstrued as having insulted Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. My

[LLVMdev] Cray is Hiring!
Hi all,
Wanted to let you know about some compiler work opportunities here at Cray.
We're pushing LLVM in all sorts of interesting ways and there's lots of work
inside and outside of LLVM to keep us all busy.
Please let me know if you are interested.

Reading SPSS: underlying numerical codes
Dear people,
I have got a question concerning the underlying numerical codes when
reading an SPSS file into R.
I used the package foreign and when I look at a variable I get the verbal
codes.
I would like to know how it is possible to get the underlying numerical
codes as output, which are the same as in my SPSS file.
Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Constructing a histogram with words as labels as height as frequency?
Hi all.
I need to construct a plot showing words on the x-axis and how many times
each word was given as a verbal response on the y-axis as solid bar
(frequency). Is there a convenient function to do this in R? I considered
hist(), but I'm not sure how to construct the text file. Example:
apple, 2
pear, 14
house, 1
beach, 5
computer, 15
Thanks,
~Caitlin

Hi,
Just wondering, is Cray still active on Chapel? Any timeframe to a
public release?
Thanks,

interpreting an LME regression result...
Any help would be most appreciated. (Don't make me get down on my
hands and knees and beg for help, cause I'll do it!!) My boss has me
learning R and doing nested regression with the report due Mon (Friday
night statistics...fun. ). Anyway, here's my problem:
In a regression equation not accounting for the fact that people are
nested in families, the result for Z variable is VERY

assign() won't work
...uch as AIC value, loglikelihood value, etc.
My best guess is,
assign(paste("group","subgroup"),get(paste("group",subgroup",i))$aic
This won't work, due to the restrictions of my the assign function. If you can't understand this from the code, here it is verbally:
I've got a bunch of matrices to fill-in with information, all their names are part of this paste function (59 in total). I want to fill in the rows of each matrix with the information from every analysis provided for each group. (i.e. for ARMA(1,0) I want a row of the aic and loglikelihood...

pseudo-R2 or GOF for regression trees?
Hello,
Is there an accepted way to convey, for regression trees, something
akin to R-squared?
I'm developing regression trees for a continuous y variable and I'd
like to say how well they are doing. In particular, I'm analyzing the
results of a simulation model having highly non-linear behavior, and
asking what characteristics of the inputs are related to a particular
