Confirmatory factor analysis problems using sem package (works in Amos)
Hello all, I'm trying to replicate a confirmatory factor analysis done in Amos. The idea is to compare a one-factor and a two-factor model. I get the following warning message when I run either model: "Could not compute QR decomposition of Hessian. Optimization probably did not converge." I have no idea what to do here. I believe posters reported the same problem. It seems

Public Apology to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore
I was misconstrued as having insulted Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. My words were twisted and misinterpreted and I feel that there is a need to explain myself and set the record straight. What really happened It was sometime in Aug/Sep in the year 2009. The setting was in the Tampines Central office of Asiasoft Online Pte Ltd. Reading SPSS: underlying numerical codes
Dear people, I have got a question concerning the underlying numerical codes when reading an SPSS file into R. I used the package foreign and when I look at a variable I get the verbal codes. I would like to know how it is possible to get the underlying numerical codes as output, which are the same as in my SPSS file. Thank you very much in advance for your help! Marion [[alternative HTML

Constructing a histogram with words as labels as height as frequency?
Hi all. I need to construct a plot showing words on the x-axis and how many times each word was given as a verbal response on the y-axis as solid bar (frequency). Is there a convenient function to do this in R? I considered hist(), but I'm not sure how to construct the text file. Example: apple, 2 pear, 14 house, 1 beach, 5 computer, 15 Thanks, ~Caitlin [[alternative HTML version

interpreting an LME regression result...
Any help would be most appreciated. (Don't make me get down on my hands and knees and beg for help, cause I'll do it!!) My boss has me learning R and doing nested regression with the report due Mon (Friday night statistics...fun. ). Anyway, here's my problem: In a regression equation not accounting for the fact that people are nested in families, the result for Z variable is VERY

assign() won't work
Hey everyone, I've been searching the mail lists, and I can't find a real discussion about my problem. Here it is: I have created a loop fitting various time series models to my data. I labeled each one of the outputs by using the assign and paste statements, i.e. assign(paste("group","subgroup",i),arima(...)). Works great, but here's what I need... I want to

pseudo-R2 or GOF for regression trees?
Hello, Is there an accepted way to convey, for regression trees, something akin to R-squared? I'm developing regression trees for a continuous y variable and I'd like to say how well they are doing. In particular, I'm analyzing the results of a simulation model having highly non-linear behavior, and asking what characteristics of the inputs are related to a particular
