How to delay failed ssh auth
Hi!
I need to delay failed ssh password authentication as an additional
measure against brute force ssh attacks. I understand, that shoud be
accomplished through pam, but googling gave me no example. I have CentOS
5.2.

2.0.5 Error: Timeout waiting for handshake from auth server.
...auth server. my pid=13360, input bytes=0
I'm using pam with winbind for authentication.
/etc/pam.d/dovecot contains:
auth required pam_winbind.so
account sufficient pam_winbind.so
And it used to work perfectly with 1.1 and 1.2 series of dovecot.
What could be the problem with 2.0.5?

3.5.6 rpcclient settdriver error
Hi,
I have Centos 5.5 64b with Sernet samba 3.5.6-43.el5 packages. It is
configured as domain member server, providing file and printer services.
I can connect with: "rpcclient -Uveiko localhost", enumdrivers and
enumprinters work, both printer and driver are listed, but when I'm
trying to set driver to printer:
"setdriver pdf-ipunkt "HP Color LaserJet 5/5M PS"
result was WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Another server with only difference being samba version 3.3.14-...

Samba 3.5.0 and getent group output
...groups from NT4 PDC
through winbind.
Before upgrade to 3.5, 'getent group' returned something like that:
groupname:x:16777268:user1,user2,user3 etc.
Now it only returns: groupname:x:16777268: without listing members of
any group.
What might be the problem and how should I fix it?

bridged kvm guest and ever changing MAC address
...figured using virt-manager.
When host is booting, br0 gets mac address of eth0.
Every time i start guest (with virt-manager) vnet0 appears and br0 mac

like to keep it same, not to change it every time guest is booting.

Libvirt NAT-based network 2x-4x faster than Libvirt routed network?
Hi
Is it expected behaviour that a libvirt NAT-based network is faster
than a libvirt routed network?
I would guess that the routed network would be the fastest one in all
cases, but I'm seeing the opposite in my setup. On a 100mbit internet
connection, the routed network tops at 4mbyte/sec, while the nat-based
network goes all the way to 10mbyte/sec. I've spend the last 6 hours

Snag installing CentOS in a VirtualBox VM
I spent most of the evening trying to boot a new install of CentOS in a

boot it and I type in <return> (or any number of other combinations, all of
which fail in exactly the same way) and it continues to run up to the point
shown in the attached screenshot.
I've tried numerous different combinations of device

I am trying to connect vsftpd to winbind via PAM, this works TOO GOOD ;-)
currently I am able to login to vsftpd with ANY password, that's bad.
I am not understanding that PAM-stuff and I have some pressure to get
that ftp-server up, so please would someone help me out?

1 Gbit/s Ethernet NIC under CentOS
Hello listmates,
As some of you may know we have been having a really bad problem with
Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 cards. See here for details:
http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?24,140124,140224
So now my question is, what PCI 1 Gbit/s Ethernet adapters should I
use under CentOS? If you have had a consistent positive experience
with any particular chipset/brand please speak up.

Picasa vs. native photo management apps
Hi,
I'm running a small business (http://www.microlinux.fr) offering various
services around GNU/Linux, among which migrating folks from Windows to
Linux. On server and desktops, I'm using CentOS exclusively. I know,
Fedora would be more suitable, but I like the solidity of CentOS, and I
can always build the odd missing bits myself from Fedora SRPMS. My
