binning a vector
Hello,
I was wondering wether there's a function in R that takes two vectors (of same length) as input and computes mean values for bins (intervals) or even a sliding window over these vectros.
I've several x/y data set (input/response) that I'd like plot together. Say the x-data for one data set goes from -5 to 14 with 12,000 values, then I'd like to bin the x-vector in steps of +1 and calculate and plot the mean of the x-values and the y-values within each bin.
I was brow...

delete a entire vector of a dataframe
delete a entire vector of a dataframe
Hello,
i want to delete a vector and tried "rm (t.d$V712)". This did not work,
message was, could not find variable. I thought the $ defines the vectro
in a dataframe, when I just type "t.d$V712" the content of this vector
is displayed.

Animation for pers3d
Hello all,
I use persp3d from the rgl-package to plot a sruface. The typical call
is persp3d(x, y, z)
With cooridinate-vectros x, y and a function-values matrix z.
Now I have different z's, say z_1,...,z_n
Question:
Is it possible to generate an animation from a sequence of such calls,
for different z's?
I would like to see how the surface is beeing changed in the time.
Thank you

Windows XP client over IPSEC VPN -- No browsing, limited file access.
Hello all,
I have a problem with browsing and share access over an IPSEC VPN. Details
follow.
The network has the following configuration: There are two local networks,
172.16.57.0/24 and 172.16.59.0/24. The networks are connected over the
internet by Cisco routers providing an IPSEC VPN. The VPNs are configured to
route all traffic (all IP types, all ports, except broadcast and ICMP

slowness with smbclient's TAR mode
I noticed this mentionned in the archives but the issue was never
resolved.
Evidently performing smbclient tar restores is excruciatingly slow. I
noticed this while trying to restore my amanda backups to a w95 machine
over samba - well over 24 hours for 850 MB.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is there anything I can
tweak or change to fix this?
Restores at this speed make my

Rsync signatures and incremental tape backup
Hello,
Andrew Trigdell's original rsync paper (actually
thesis) discussed the idea of using rsync to make
incremental tape backups based not on whole files but
rather parts of files. Sadly, this functionality is
not actually present in the rsync program. I'd like to
explore adding this ability.
There are basically three things that need to be done
to enable efficient (partial-file)

connection timeout
Attached is a patch which adds a ConnectionTimeout option, and corrects
the ConnectionAttempts documentation.
Previously, ssh would try to make a connection ConnectionAttempts times,
sleeping 1 second between tries. But each connection attempt could take a
very long time to fail if the packets die before the get to the host. So
if ssh is being run in a script or what-have-you, it might be
