VDO killed my server
Folks
I was impressed with the description of VDO (Virtual Device
Optimizer?) in the RedHat documentaion, so much that I tried to use
it. The tutorials led me to a few commands. I built a VDO device on
top of two USB disks which I made into a Logical Volume, and I was ready to go.
In my test case, I had a file set of about 600 GB. There was...

Understanding VDO vs ZFS
...;ve had several data-loss events with ZFS where
because of a combination of errors and/or mistakes, the entire store
was lost. I've also noticed that ZFS is maintained separately from
Centos. At this moment, the Centos 8 update causes ZFS to
fail. Looking for an alternate, I'm trying VDO.
In the VDO installation, I created a logical volume containing two
hard-drives, and defined VDO on top of that logical volume. It
appears to be running, yet I find the deduplication numbers don't
pass the smell test. I would expect that if the logical volume
contains three copies of ess...

Understanding VDO vs ZFS
Hi David,
in my opinion, VDO isn't worth the effort. I tried VDO for the same use case: backups. My dataset is 2-3TB and I backup daily. Even with a smaller dataset, VDO couldn't stand up to it's promises. It used tons of CPU and memory and with a lot of tuning I could get it to kind of work, but it became corrupte...

Understanding VDO vs ZFS
My two cents:
1- Do you have an encrypted filesystem on top of VDO? If yes, you will see
no benefit from dedupe.
2- can you post the stats of vdostats ?verbose /dev/mapper/xxxxx (replace
with your device)
you can do something like: "vdostats -verbose /dev/mapper/xxxxxxxx | grep
-B6 'save percentage'

vdo statustics on Dedup?
Folks
I've started to use "vdo" instead of zfs in Centos 7. I hope this is
a wise decision. However, I'm a bit mystified in decoding the
"vdostats" output.
I'd like to figure out how well deduplication is working. One
measure would be to find two numbers:
L = How many bocks are in use as reported...

Also, if you want to use deduplication (via VDO) then you must
remember to "dedupe then encrypt"

Sending Calls via SIP trunk from several different IP addresses from same Asterisk Machine, to the same destination IP
Hi!
I would like to reopen a discussion that I saw a couple of years ago, with the subject "Sending Calls via SIP trunk from two different IP addresses from same Asterisk Machine"
The use case is simpe: There are providers that want to see a separate source IP address for each of their customers SIP trunks. Now, if we have an asterisk box with several customers, we have a problem.

Streaming MoH from iHeart radio?
Hi all,
I have a user who would like to stream their favorite radio station from
iHeart radio for their music on hold.
It this TECHNICALLY possible? If so, any pointers would be appreciated.
Is this LEGAL in the US?
Thanks in advance,
Mike.

The kmod can be built against an older kernel and used on the more
modern version. That is, unless the symbols in use had a signature
change, which would signal to the kernel module that they...

of data that is stored locally on each box. I may have to take this route
if I can't find something else but that would mean syncing all sorts of
data that does not need to be synced.

Removing a mailbox from a dovecot cluster
...ove the mdbox storage with rm because I'll be stuck with attachments from removed mailboxes. Am I wrong?
you may be right. I don't know if any tools like doveadm deduplicate will check for orphans.
On a new server you could disable sis and use a filesystem with deduplication instead (e.g. vdo)
> This is why I first use doveadm flags/expunge to mark as removed all messages then I use doveadm purge to remove them from storage. I can't use theses commands on deleted/disabled user, I get an error saying the user cannot be found, so I can't remove them from LDAP first.

Our idea is avoid the users need to go into WebPage and setup our SIP
