installing debian domu
...he life of me figure out how to get a Debian (sarge or etch) DomU up and running. All the instructions I find involve running debootstrap, which of course is only possible if I''m using a Debian dom0 as well.
So... what''s the trick? And is it any easier to install any of the BSD varients (which don''t seem to install cleanly into virtualbox).
Thanks for any help!

Poor linux client performance (comparing to XP)
Hello,
I haven't found anything useful googling around so I decided to ask here.
I have a Linux server running Samba on 100Mbit/s ethernet. If I connect to it
using WinXP, mount some share and download files from it it reaches about
9MB/s transfer rate. Using FTP gives even higher transfer rates.
BUT
when I use linux to connect to (linux!) server, mount shares and download
files then

ifelse on a series of rows for multiple criteria
...ve attempted to construct this code as follows:
direction_func <- function(combdframe) {
??? ifelse(mean(i> 0), sum(i> 0), ifelse(mean(i < 0), sum(i < 0), -99999))
??? }
???
for (i in nrow(combdframe)) {
direction <- apply(combdframe[i,],1, direction_func)
}
...but this, and varients on this, result in a bit of a mess!
Any guidance on how to perform this (whether it be a correction of the above or a whole new approach) would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Steve

[PATCH] xen/cpuidle: Reduce logging level for unknown apic_ids
Dom0 uses this hypercall to pass ACPI information to Xen.
It is not very uncommon for more cpus to be listed in the ACPI tables than are
present on the system, particularly on systems with a common BIOS for a 2 and
4 socket server varients.
As Dom0 does not control the number of entries in the ACPI tables, and is
required to pass everything it finds to Xen, reduce the ERR to an INFO.

Openssh hash request
Please forgive if this is the wrong place...
As a user of the excellent ssh and sshd I would like to see the next
version of openssh contain support for the SHA-2 hashes (SHA-256,
SHA-384, and SHA-512) as the SHA-1 hash is now known to be vulnerable to
a 2^69 and possibly a 2^63 key-space search. As of version 0.98 openssl
contained support for these hashes so it would be nice if openssh

Is it possible to make Samba4 use an external LDAP server for authN, and its own internal LDAP server for all other LDAP purposes?
My company uses 389-ds for its LDAP service, and all services are configured to use that LDAP for authentication.
I'd like to start using Samba4 as an AD DC, in order to control/manage MsWin computers.
It was simplest to me to install Samba4 configured to use its own internal LDAP server, rather than make it use my existing 389-ds LDAP server.
However, I want Samba4 to authenticate to the

CentOS roadmap/EPEL
There are lots of exciting things happening in the CentOS ecosystem at
the moment, by which I mean "upstream" or "across stream" in Fedora and
RHEL.
I'm thinking of projects that equip RH-like EL in general for serious
entry into the enterprise, things like the Fedora Directory Server, and
RedHat's Emerging Technologies projects such as Cobbler, FreeIPA and
Ovirt.

No symlink support on SMB2 and SMB3?
Hello,
I am using Samba version 4.2.0rc4-GIT-4701d74.
When using a connection in protocol smb2 or smb3, the unix client says
symlinks are not supported, for example:
# mount //ip.addr/Programs ./tmp -o vers=3.0
# cd tmp
# ln -s bla blub
ln: failed to create symbolic link ?blub?: Operation not supported
# mount
//ip.addr/Programs on /mnt/tmp type cifs

Help with error log entry and terrible performance
When an XP box is reading a file from the Samba server performance is
what you would expect with 100 mbs ethernet.
When uploading a large file (>1 meg) performance is very slow. 1/20th
what
I would expect.
The Samba server log has these entries:
posix_fcntl_lock: WARNING: lock request at offset 12226560, length
61440 returned

Asterisk Demo
Hi,
I need to setup a demo for asterisk and need some help here please. The demo
is connecting to Asterisk a Cisco 7970 SIP (ver. &.0) and a SIP client on HP
iPAQ via a wireless hotspot. I need to configure both with the same
extension with a shared line like in Cisco CallManager. This way if the
extension is called both iPAQ and the IP phone ring and the user gets to
pick up using either.

Practicality of fixing samba's case mangling problems?
...s the case matches.
I've tried many kludge arounds, including symlinks for the differently
cased options,
as well as multiple entries for the same user in /etc/passwd --
something that
causes random behavior depending on how many items are in a cache, it's
size and
who referenced which varient when.
As near as I can tell, this change started with Win2000, and use of port
445 when
names larger than the Netbios len of 15 chars were allowed (beause names
passed over
445, aren't required to be netbios compatible.
FWIW, I've seen both BLISS and Bliss on my local net as a workgro...
