Analysis of Varience question.
I'm trying to use R for some of the analysis shown in Box, Hunter and Hunter
(1979, I believe) using the aov function. I'm using the first example in
chapter 6, where they are determining the analysis of varience between 4
treatments.
In this example, the are determineing the analysis between and within
treatments, which I can get by
aov(response~treatment+Error(treatment))
Where response is the response data (numeric) and treatment is the treatment
type (Factor).
In the next example, they determine the...

returned values of glim() in S PLus and glm() in R
Dear Experts,
In glim() of S Plus, one of the returned values is "var", the estimated
variance matrix of coefficients. However, in glm() of R (there is no
glim() in R), "var" is not one of the returned values. Anyone know what
could I get the varience matrix of coefficients in glm() in R?
As a novice in R and S+, I'd appreciate your help
Sincerely,
Charlie Liu

which we, in class, have been calling "the loadings":

absurd computiation times of lme
...about
5 Minutes on a 750MHz machine. The fitting makes sense but
is very bad due to the lack of flexibility. 4 knots take
27 Min to compute and 5 knots take more than 5 hours
(I interrupted after that).
I played around with pdMat, but actually it does not make sense
to restrict the variance - co-varience matrix.
Second example:
In this case, we have about 800 children with measurements
between 0 and 2.5 years. Unfortunatly, the number of the
measurements as well as the timing differs a lot, it is only
guranteed that each child is measured at least once in all
of the 5 first quarters.

encoding bitrates, different machines...
I found I have ripped the same CD twice with different machines. Cannot
remember when, why, or how, but anyway. I've been using jack, here is
relevant output:
first one:
01/|\enc/|\128/|\[coding @0.67× done,129kbit]
02/|\enc/|\128/|\[coding @0.69× done,124kbit]
03/|\enc/|\128/|\[coding @0.66× done,124kbit]
<etc>
econd one:
01/|\enc/|\128/|\[coding @5.50× done,116kbit]
