pks for openssh
...I'm hesitant until I know what others think and, primarily, whether or not they have even contacted people like Markus or Theo about this. The RFC is written by them, and it looks like they sell some commercial software around this idea as well. Here is links to more info: http://www.vandyke.com/download/os/pks_ossh.html http://www.vandyke.com/technology/draft-ietf-secsh-publickey- subsystem.txt The idea of it sounds interesting, but I would really like to know if they have approached anyone regarding having it included in openssh proper. Thanks. -- MandrakeSoft Security; http...

accessing models from migrations
Ok, so now Users need to be associated with Organizations. I''ve created a migration and added a ''organization_id'' column to the users table. I want the default organization_id to be the first Organization. So I have :default => Organization.find(:first). But it''s complaining about not being able to find the constant ''Organization''. Any

Also, pscp only uses v1 as far as I can see :( > > (Sorry if there's already discussion on this, I didn't f...

Transfer rate issues with OpenSSH SFTP Server - Verified on Mac OS X 10.2.X and FreeBSD 5.0
First, I have what I consider to be decent experience with SSH, and have been running VanDyke's VShell SSH server for considerable time under Windows 2000/XP. Recently, I have been working with Mac OS X and FreeBSD and have been using OpenSSH 3.4p1 The sftp server seems to have major issues when serving files, specifically, if one data stream is used the transfer rates fluxuate between...

Van Dyke's Public Key Assistant
...msgroup.com/?l=openssh-unix-dev&m=103436908422003&w=2 I do see a few comments that seem to point out his arrogance and some disgust about OpenBSD's RCSID, but has anybody found it to be unsecure or if it was bug ridden. The subject sorta dies right there. If you follow the links on www.vandyke.com, they still seem to be maintaining the patch... Even if it was never going to be part of the RFC and might be only mildly popular is there a technical reason the OpenSSH project's source should not include his patch? Does it hamstring security? Anyone know if Van Dyke's license and/...

OpenSSH - SFTP issue
Hello, We are having issue with SFTP for Windows server. The OpenSSH reports the "Exit Staus -1" upon exiting the sftp session ( Though the file is successfully getting transferred!!). I have opened ticket with VanDyke Software - vShell and reported this issue. Accordiong to VanDyke Software, there is no issue with vShell configuration / its debug logs. Would you please let us know, what is this "Exit Status -1"?. Note that when transfering to Unix servers, it gives "Exit Status 0&quo...

SSH ?
I have a FTP server behind my firewall. Thanks to Tom it works. Next I would like protect the username and password. With out a firewall. I would just create a SSH user on the firewall and connect. I think the easiest way is to do this is to forward port 22 to my ftp server. Is there a way to have the firewall handle the ssh session and forward the rest of the packet to the ftp server. This

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed
I'm using Rsync 3.1.0 and VanDyke VShell for SSH. Both services have started up in the remote server under the local account nasadmin. I know port 22 is open on the firewall because i was able to see the root directory being created after an rsync command from the server, but no files were synchronized over. Later, i started re...

Sftp slow on both our centos installs
The short version. Copying over SFTP to our centos boxes maxes out at 2MB a sec. The Question: Is there some sort of speed limitation somewhere in the ssh/sftp daemon? Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening? The long version We have centos 4.6 installed on 2 different machines, different hardware, different nics. Even on 2 different subnets. I've tried different switches,

OpenSSH v3.8p1 fails to interoperate for GSSAPI (Kerberos) and X-Windows
...pps work properly. In a trinary chain 3.5 -> 3.8 -> 3.5, all the apps work properly. When both the client and the server are 3.8p1, and tcl/tk is the latest version, it works but xmag and xwd fail as above. Analysis: Sometime between 2003-09-12 and the present, a draft RFC: http://www.vandyke.com/technology/draft-ietf-secsh-gsskeyex.txt was issued defining gssapi-with-mic, which resists certain "man in the middle" attacks. v3.8p1 does only gssapi-with-mic; versions up to v3.7 do only old-style gssapi. There appears to be no ./configure switch to turn on gssapi-without-mic at...

Packet integrity error. (29)
I'm using SecureCRT (http://www.vandyke.com/) to connect to OpenSSH (1.2pre14 built from source RPMs) running on RedHat Linux 6.1. When I forward a local port using SecureCRT to a port on the server and try to connect, I get the error message "Packet integrity error. (29)" on the server and the session is disconnected. This...

sshd demons
...ed. The strange thing is that this is happening on both my Redhat 6.2 server and Redhat 7.0, both running OpenSSH_2.3.0p1. I'm positive that KeepAlive is set to yes ! Is this a common problem ? I'm suspecting that is has something to do with the client as well. Think we're all using vandyke.com's Secure CRT. I guess these bugs are really hard to track down :/ , and I'm not sure what info you need. But I just wanted to tell you that I assume something is wrong in the sshd program. -- JF? [Bug 147] New: ssh dies if it gets SSH_MSG_USERAUTH_PASSWD_CHANGEREQ
...ion: 3.0p1 Platform: Other OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P4 Component: ssh AssignedTo: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org ReportedBy: Darren.Moffat at Sun.COM This was discovered while testing against Vandyke at Connectathon 2002. The protocol requires that both the client and server understand that passwords can expire. A server can send to the client SSH_MSG_USERAUTH_PASSWD_CHANGEREQ, if the users password has expired draft-ietf-secsh-userauth-15.txt: Section 5 says: Normally, the server respo...

[Bug 469] Password field shows contents when running SQLPLUS in SSH shell

Problem: when I login to my NT4.0 server, using VanDyke's SecureCRT4.0 and SSH2, I get the usual screen. All seems well. Now I connect to the Oracle component using SQLPlus*: sqlplus system at DBname When the password prompt appears: Enter password: I type in the password and viola!!! the password appears on the screen! Windows networking and SOCKS proxies

After that, you can do a "net view \\127.0.0.1" when the ssh connection is up, and see your shares on <samba machine>. I'm using Van Dyke's SecureCRT on the client end (http://www.vandyke.com/), and sshd 1.2.26 from ftp://nic.funet.fi/pub/unix/security/login/ssh/ on the server end. Since SecureCRT _does_ support SOCKS, this works. Jim -- Jim Watt jimw@PE-Informatics.COM PE Corporation Voice (desk): +1 408 577 2228 PE Informat...

Terminal settings
So this has been bugging me for a few years now and I can always "fix" the problem, but I don't know if that's actually the correct way. So the issue is terminal emulation. I use Secure CRT (vandyke.com) to connect to any and all of my servers through SSH. Whether the terminal is set to 'linux' or 'xterm' makes no difference, I always get this output when I run a 'tree' command (and others that have some sort of graphical output): [13] 05:04:53 <root at brasco:~&gt...
