"net rpc vampire ..." does NOT set the SAM or SECURITY hives of the registry to "readable", which is what renders the PDC non-operable. Hello list, i did a quite sucessfull net rpc vampire but one promblem remains. Everything is fine, but the user group memberships aren't restored. Only alle primary group member ships are restored. every user is in the primgrp (4126 Users). All Groups (2659) are restored including sids. but no membership is restored! Reading through the Samba3 -By Example guide and I'm confused with the statement section 9.2 http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2594565 about accessing the SAM and Security sections of the registry will render the PDC non operable. Its clear from the text if you go and edit the registry(regedit etc..) so you can read the entries your PDC will not work.

Hi All, It seems like Samba 3 does require the PDC to use LDAP for nss when using ldapsam. I reconfigured Solaris 9 to use nss_ldap and 'getent group' now shows the posixGroups created by the 'net rpc vampire' operation. I then cleaned up the LDAP database and ran vampire again. Each group is created successfully with incrementing gidNumber 10000 onward. 'net groupmap
