make_server_info_info3: pdb_init_sam failed!
Hi,
We have a linux/samba only domain serving files to about 16-18 Windows
clients (mostly XP, a few W2K).
PDC:
SuSE OpenXchange 4.4
samba 2.2.8a
openldap 2.1.4
Domain Member Server (DMS)
CentOS 4.4
samba 3.0.10
I set the Domain Member Server up using the default passdb backend
(/etc/samba/smbpasswd) to start with and that all worked fine.
I would like to use LDAP for centralised

is there a limit to the length of validusers= lines (i.e over 102 4 bytes)
Dear All
We've noticed that old (1.9.18x) versions of samba do not like very long (
over 1020 ish bytes ) valid user= lines. I assume that a 1k buffer is
overrun. Yes, we have that many users for some shares.
What is the limit in more recent samba's (2.2.x) - I know this is in the
source - so if someone could point me in the right direction I'll go look (I

Login form_tag with select_tag option
Hi all,
In the application i develop, a sophisticated login system is required.
Being a newbie in Ruby, i''m not comfortable with the select tag in the
form tag.
My requirement:
2 tables - User(LoginName, Password, RoleId...) and Role(RoleId,
RoleName...)
View - RoleNames to be loaded in the drop down box and On submit, RoleId
to be passed to controller for authentication.

LMTP, PAM session and home directory autocreation
Hi,
mail is delivered by Dovecot's LMTP locally and I need user's home directory to be created if it doesn't exist yet.
There is a setting in Dovecot's configuration, "session=yes", in /etc/Dovecot/conf.d/auth-system.conf.ext, which should do that.
passdb {
driver = pam
args = session=yes dovecot
}
But I think it does not work in my setup because I do not see any

kerberos nfs4's principals and root access
Hello samba team !
I have some NFS4 exports managed by a Samba's Kerberos realm. All the
standard user accesses work fine.
I try now to setup an NFS4 root access to administer the share from
another server (the two host are DC, one PDC and one SDC). But I have
trouble understanding the kerberos/principals layer.

Dovecot LDA and address extensions - folders flood
Hi list,
This post is slightly OT, I hope no one will take offense.
I was following the wiki on using dovecot LDA with postfix and implemented,
for our future mail server, the address extensions mechanism: an email sent
to "validUser+foldername at mydomain.com" will have dovecot-lda automagically
create and subscribe the "foldername" folder. With some basic scripting I

"Waiting for authentication process to respond" for invalid users with auth_dovecot
Hi,
I am testing dovecot 2.0.13 and 2.0.14 with qmail-ldap and
auth_dovecot patch. If i login to dovecot (pop3/imap) with correct
user and password.
no problem, I can login immediately. but if I try with nonexistant
user, dovecot does not immediate answer, wait for a while and says
"Waiting for authentication process to respond."
auth_dovecot process remains working in the background.

kerberos nfs4's principals and root access
Thanks you very much Louis !
I have tried your setup and I can't mount the share neither from the
server itself or the client.
On /var/log/syslog I have :
rpc.gssd : ERROR : no credentials found for connecting to server myserver
This is because the machine principal is not present in the keytab :
$ klist -k

1 nfs/myclient.samdom.com at SAMDOM.COM

kerberos nfs4's principals and root access
Hai Baptiste,
I re-checked my setup and your totaly correct.
I can not enter the nfsV4 mounted directory as root.
What i've added in idmap.conf
Is this :
Domain = your_DNS_domain.tld
[Translation]
Method = nsswitch
And i found this link.
http://serverfault.com/questions/526762/root-access-to-kerberized-nfsv4-host-on-ubuntu
im testing this now.

kerberos nfs4's principals and root access
Hai,
I had it the other way around. Only root acces.
I have scripted my setup and tested on debian.
Look here
https://secure.bazuin.nl/scripts/these_are_experimental_scripts/
setup-nfsv4-kerberos.sh
If you get the file, setup-nfsv4-kerberos.sh and compair it to your setup.
If you can read the bash script maybe you see something you missed.
When i write as "root" its root and

provide a different userid/password combination for each drive I map to my NT

"Connect As" box and hit "OK", I get the message:

kerberos nfs4's principals and root access
Hai Batiste,
Ok, thanks for these, i'll test that also.
And the "why" is a bit more explained here.
http://www.citi.umich.edu/projects/nfsv4/crossrealm/libnfsidmap_config.html
and per example,
http://www.citi.umich.edu/projects/nfsv4/crossrealm/ldap_server_setup.html
First my work here, but this is a good one which i also need to adjust in my scripts, so thank you for asking

kerberos nfs4's principals and root access
Hi,
Sorry for this necrobump.... But I'm still can't use my local root
user to browse content of my NFSv4/Krb5 share...... (others permission
are checked when root use this share)
So a lot of questions appeared during my tests :
- Must i have same idmap.conf on both client and server ?
- Why rpc.idmapd only use 'nsswitch' method even if 'static' is

Missing 'smbmount' on Ubuntu?
I have just started running Kubuntu Badger version 6.06.
Although Samba seems to be installed, there is no smbmount program.
What would I use to mount a samba share?
Plain old 'mount -t smbfs'?
