Dovecot proxy in front of UWash?
Is it possible to use Dovecot frontends in front of UWash backends?
I need a proxy pool ASAP. There is not sufficient time to migrate the
backends for 40,000+ users so they have to stay UW for now.
I have been looking at Perdition but concerned about performance under
load. Dovecot looks really promising with it's non-forking mode. I need
simple dum...

Wow. That comparison is only 11.5 years old.
The "default" file system of reiserfs and gcc-3.3 were dead giveaways.
I suspect Dovecot's changed a tad since that test.

[Fwd: Re: University of Washington lays off 66 technology workers.]
I would expect this means the end of UWIMAP....which probably leaves DC as
open-source IMAP of choice. There were 66 people doing IMAP and Pine/Alpine
development that were laid off at UWash due to funding cuts; Mark Crispin, one
of the fathers of IMAP, was among those laid off.

The latency is killing it. I see the TCP window size being as high as
17069 with 7678 being common.
The sendmail latency isn't spectacular, but at least uses ~64K packets.
So wazzup with dovecot?
I don't recall this being so much an issue with the old uwash imaps, but
then it's been a while since I've
used it and maybe my files weren't as large.
But it can take several minutes to save a file to a record file that
takes <1 second over network CIFS.
Anyway to up the size of minimum packet size to 128K or more?

Concerning: in 0.99.10.7 - Maildir: LIST now doesn't skip symlinks
...it still doesn't
work. If it was pulled (which is strange becauase my .6 release didn't do it),
why?
Are the .conf directives about it I'm missing by chance? (Didn't notice
anything)
I'm using Dovecot in combo with horde/imp and it's amazingly faster than
courier-imap or uwash-imap, well done!
What about the aforementioned ACL/Shared folders? I'm getting into a crux
that I may need it and courier-imap-/-cyrus-imap will do my trick but, dovecot
smokes them on performance! (Especially with horde/imp's preview/info stuff)

Question about "target is inferior" type of message
We're converting UW-IMAP users here to dovecot. Some of them have seen
the error message
issued when Thunderbird clients try to delete folders and I understand
what's going on (from
previous postings) that Dovecot doesn't support mbox subfolders within
folders.
What puzzles me is that many of these users already have folders
within folders (I've found
