Last month we discussed the problems with webcams in CentOS 6 and I raised Bugzilla #1158988 with Red Hat. This bug has now been declared a duplicate of 1145805. Just opened cheese in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) and the camera worked fantastically. I noticed the cam listed, UVC Camera(046d:0990) is exactly the same one in icu2 except that in cheese I saw /dev/video0 after the name of the camera. What does that mean? I am thinking of buying a Logitech C920S Pro HD or C922 webcam for the necessary video conferencing. Is anyone using that with Zoom or perhaps with Jitsi? Do I need drivers? Any issues? Thank you.

Irritating quirkyness: we have a bunch of videocams. To use, we use gspca. Usually, on an upgrade, I just go into the gspca directory (which appears, from their website, to have not been updated since '07), make clean, make, make install. I just installed centos 5.5 x86_64 on a new HP laptop. It has the core i5 processor. only 1 cpu is detected should be 2. This has happened before. Is upstream not keeping up with new processors released and updating the kernel? I'd rather not go through the process again of putting a newer kernel on the machine and having something different out there than "stock" centos. Jerry
